No big fee for Johnson - Watson in EADT just now 13:41 - Jan 18 with 2319 viewsIllinoisblue

A source has told the EADT and Ipswich Star that while Johnson is a player of interest to Kieran McKenna, no formal bid has yet been lodged and the club would not be prepared to pay any more than a nominal fee for a player who recently turned 33

There's no way we'll pay £1m for a 33 year old. It's entirely contrary to our transfer policy of investing fees in players with potential sell on value.

He would be a good player to pick up, good experience and in form. Primarily as cover for Davis or a replacement for Davis in the latter stages of games which is a definite area we're short. There isn't a chance we would spend that sort of money on him though.

Whilst £1m is ridiculous, there's no way Wednesday let a player who is instrumental in their seasons upturn leave for a 'nominal' fee.

Unless i'm an old git and still live in the 80's and 250k is now nominal

Assume he's probably a decent earner there though and out of contract in 6 months. So a £200k fee and wages off the books to use elsewhere might be useful.

I think 250k probably is considered nominal in this day and age for a player with a lot of Championship appearances under his belt. Over a 2 year contract it's no different to signing a free transfer who commands 2.5k more in wages per week. Beating Maidstone would pay for half of that in prize money.

From their perspective they might think it's better to cash in now than him walk on a free in the summer. Although given their league position I would certainly be looking to keep hold of him for the run in.

A nominal fee would be ok - and we'd get that back from Brandon's wages we wouldn't then be paying anyway (assuming he goes back... if not, we don't need Johnson).

There's no way on this earth we'd pay £1m+ for a 33 year old to be a back up.
