Seems like a very odd decision.
It takes two minutes. It's a tradition. Fans absolutely love it and rely on it and not buying the argument everyone is checking the scores on their phones throughout.
The reality is that time will instead be used by someone like Danny Murphy talking absolutely shoite instead.

Sharpen the pitchforks, light the torches and March on Broadcasting House, simply cut out Alan Green and they'll have plenty of time for everything.
Erm as I haven't listened to R5L for sometime, is Mr. Green still on there?
I guess these days the classified results reading is superseded by wide spread access to smart phones. But, there was always fun to be had in the car trying to guess the score from JAG's intonation, and the feeling of dread when it was Random Home Team one Ipswich Town...
And that's all before mentioning goosebumps that accompany that tune...
Then The Archers. What I really love about the classifieds is that each individual result becomes apparent after just the home team's name and score had been announced. It is a matter of emphasis.

It's brilliant isn't it?

I always liked a wiggly "Nii-iii-iiil" for the home team, indicating an away win to nil. Lovely stuff. Used to use it as a drinking game! The holy grail was to get Ipswich winning one of those and Norwich losing one in the same week.
And I guess these days if the content of our results is gonna be worse than Norwich's, we might as well enjoy the way the scores are read out!!!

Yeah. Sad to hear this confirmed. I was in the car Saturday and was waiting for the classifieds, but they didn't come. I presumed it was because they had another commentary, but didn't think it was a permanent change. Bad decision. They might as well drop the sports report theme while they're at it. I really don't want to say the game's dead, as it isn't, but sliwly and surely there's becoming less to love about it. As a complete aside and unrelated to the thread, I'mcurrently reading the 442 season preview and was just sad at the Newcastle fan preview who said " the new owners have been all we wished for". Football isn't really a matter of life and death, but the saudi regime is. Sigh.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I see also that they are slowly and insidiously cutting the content of their teletext service. Mind you, they where going to axe it all together until Covid reared it's ugly head. Some older folk will miss out.
