Right, 3 weeks ago today, I managed to turn my ankle under me whilst playing 5 a side and it's still nowhere near 100%

I'll rest up for a few days with pain killers and ice, then it will feel alright, I'll exercise/play footy and I'm back to being in pain again and the cycle continues. Doc suggested it 'could be' a Sinus-Tarsi injury but suggested seeing a private physio to avoid NHS waiting lists (I, of course, blame Thatcher).

So, my Q is this - am I best to seek help from a Sports Injury Physio or a Specialist Foot Clinic in regard?

What say you?

The NHS self-referral service for physiotherapy is excellent. I used it recently; they triage you from the on-line details about your injury, and will give immediate recommendations for exercises etc. They then ask you to ring in 48 hours time, and they'll make you an appointment. I waited a couple of weeks for mine so I could be seen by a physio visiting my GP surgery, but I could have gone elsewhere and been seen quicker.

3 weeks isn't nearly long enough recovery imo, especially if you've played football on it. Know you've seen a doctor but that seems obvious answer to me. You can do a lot of damage turning your ankle, sprains take close to a couple of months to heal or more.

This. A few days isn't going to solve anything - I'd suggest giving it at least 2 weeks - and then build up with gentle work before getting back to football.

Yeah, you're most certainly correct. I thought it was all sorted, that's why I went back to playing but it's obviously not.

I'll get it looked at professionally.

No bruising, swollen both sides of the ankle. Anti inflammatory meds & ice brought it down though.

Probably a stupid question but do you wear any ankle support when exercising or playing?

I had similar issues after doing my ligaments a few years back but a simple support strap worked wonders - probably far too basic from what you’ve said but worth a try if you don’t use one already

I done mine 4 months ago, same way, went over on it, went to AE as heard small crack, could have been Metatarsal, could have been Ligament. Still hurts even now though and cant play on it so most likely Ligament.

Ae Nurse Practitioner poked it a few times, no X-ray so no one really knows though, gave me crutches.
