Fantastic effort by Bangladesh on 14:50 - Jun 2 with 1094 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Did SA bowl and field poorly? I know batting is Bangladesh's strength. I thought SA bowled well against us. I only saw a couple of overs today but didn't think they bowled them very well.

Yes I only saw the last 3 or 4 overs but SA didn’t bowl well in those. I’d still back them to get the runs but it won’t be easy. Should be a good game which is a plus as aside from our match on Thursday they’ve all been a bit one sided so far, and even our game was at the end.

Five Live have just said it was Bangladesh's highest-ever total in an ODI.

It is, although they have at least 10 300+ scores. I still think batting is their strength.

That is quite staggering given the modern rule changes and the sheer amount of ODIs they play

This would also be the highest run chase in WC cricket if SA do it | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Another amazing stat but I guess the game has changed so much in the last five years?

Also many of the World Cup matches are between mismatched teams so scoring 330+ is not as rare as successfully chasing that total set by another team. Probably also reflects the wickets/grounds used for the later games in the last World Cup. I guess they were lower scoring ones.

Fantastic effort by Bangladesh on 15:54 - Jun 2 with 991 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Win predictor currently has it around 50:50. Would SA be out if they lost? Is it the top 4 teams that go through? It would probably mean they would need to win all the rest of their matches wouldn't it?

Yes they wouldn’t be out but considering the games left and opposition it would be pretty difficult to get through. Plus you’ve then always got the risk of a no result due to weather that could finish you off

Regarding that first point, less so than it used to be, with fewer teams in this year's competition. Plus Bangladesh are, in relative terms, one of the less strong teams - certainly compared with South Africa.

On reflection, the top teams still played each other in the group stages too. The highest successful chase is currently by Ireland v us isn't it? Perhaps the biggest factor is how much the game has changed in the last 4-5 years.

Yes, altho this year's tournament rather bucks the trend. Bangladesh's total is, so far, only the second innings (out of six which could have) which exceeded 210.

Yes, highest run-chase to date was when Ireland overhauled England's total of 327 on 2nd March 2011 in Bangalore.

SA aren’t out of this, based on at the 30 overs stage double the score they’d be 336. These two currently batting are rotating the strike well and looking comfortable. This could be a tight finish.

They don't bat that deep, tho. A couple more wickets could put them back in trouble.

Today their side bats deeper than against the one England faced on Friday, Morris is decent with the bat and he’s down at No.8. 50/50 game for me at the moment.
