I’m mentally preparing for one more twist. 10:26 - May 3 with 1824 viewsDeepBlueSea

Conceding an early goal for example, which may or may not be accompanied by Leeds scoring (I don’t think they’ll win btw). I honestly think my psyche is slightly marked by the late 1990s playoffs. Always feeling so close but not quite there. I fully admit it is pessimistic thinking, and last seasons final home match 6-0 win at PR is a far better indicator of whether this squad has the mentality to get over the line than how a bunch of long retired players performed a quarter of a century ago.

I’m not expecting this to make a huge amount of sense, just saying what’s on my mind. COYB!

Not an unlikely scenario – we have had to surmount bumps all season and it would be no surprise to me if one arrived in the first half tomorrow. Everyone needs to hold their nerve.

I thin k there will be bumps along the way. I can see a Huddersfield score with their first attack scenario after we've missed 3 or 4 good chances.

Think we'll win out eventually but in the moment, there will be despair and soiled trousers.

Yes, I am on that page too. Can't help looking for a banana skin: lousy officials, strange referee, red cards, injury etc.
But; with Kieran McKenna, I feel a whole lot more imponderables have been meticulously pondered and our boys will be more than adequately prepared. We will be totally professional. and if that doesn't work we "man up and go again". It will be fine. Breathe!

just think the important thing to remember is that Huddersfield are a championship football team - at least for now - and if anyone thinks there is an easy game at this level they are crazy.
The Hudders players actually have a huge amount to play for - i.e. they want to impress if they think they're going down - maybe to get signed elsewhere, etc - also free of any pressure (lets face it they're down already) can also sometimes make teams perform very well .... no easy games not in any of the 4 major leagues and this one we need to be focused and with it else there will be a very slippery bannana skin

I don't think there will be any despair. Whenever we concede a goal it just gets us going and the crowd get behind the boys even more!

It's not impossible that we let in a goal against the run of play, but I'm expecting us to come out to try and blow them away in the first 10 minutes. Once we score the first goal Huddersfield will melt away and the momentum and sense of inevitability will take us forward with the backing of the crowd.
I'm expecting something like a 6-0.
Having said that, what is likely and what will happen are two different things entirely, so if any bumps do come up I have confidence in the lads to deal with them and hopefully we can hide our anxiety and demonstrate our belief in the team!

I watched Huddersfield's 5-3 loss to Southampton in February and they were brilliant going forwards on that rare occasion. Sorba Thomas in particular was a man possessed, so it's pleasing to read he's likely to be one of those left off the bus (has allegedly "downed tools", but the combo of final day and Sky cameras should motivate everyone). Somehow this guy has created the most "chances" in the division with 123, one more than Leif. Suspect we're very much in quantity over quality territory here, unlike with Leif, but I'd happily see them without his productivity anyway.

On the likelihood of a twist, it's worth noting that Huddersfield have scored in 17 of their 20 league games in 2024, same as us! Couple that with our propensity for conceding at home and I make your preparation very sensible (we should believe our lads will overcome any twist by the end though, as you say).

Remember with this team, this season, we've fallen behind 22 times and have picked up 8 wins and 8 draws (6 losses) when that happened - the 32 points from losing positions being the most in the league.

And Huddersfield have taken the lead in 21 games, which is actually pretty decent for a team in their position. But they've only gone on to win 9 of those games. The 12 times they've failed to convert a lead into a win is also the most in the league.

The Huddersfield players will be hoping for as little added on time as possible so as not to prolong the season any longer! I don't think you can compare their earlier season mentality to how they are now.
Just look at Rotherham, they weren't that good all season, and yet they were excellent against us, but they aren't even playing for pride anymore. Actually, since they changed their manager, they seem slightly tougher to beat. Huddersfield are the ideal opponent and we only need a draw. They have better odds at beating us than Maidstone, and look how that turned out, so of course we have to be professional and respect the opposition. There is nothing wrong in expressing that we should win this game and there isn't too much to be concerned about considering we only need a point and not even that if Leeds don't win.

3-0 down at half time. Leeds 3-0 up.

Taylor comes on and scores a hattrick of absolute thunderb@stards. We park the bus, Huddersfield score a 4th on 90+6.

Leeds players and fans on the pitch, they've won 5-0 and waiting for news of the final whistle from PR.

Hladky 90+12 heads an equaliser from a corner.

Something like that?

Oh I'm not doing that at all, have mentioned on another thread that they're the ideal opponent. They do, however, continue to score a goal in most games (6 out of 7, if 17 out of 20 feels too lengthy a timespan). If they repeat the feat tomorrow and it comes early, we just dust ourselves down and get back to it.

There's going to be so much motivation for us to get the result tomorrow. We see it every game, but tomorrow especially.

The fans, the amount the players will want this after the season they've had, the financial benefit / bonuses / pay rises, the opportunity to play in the premier league, the knowledge that they can then party and go off on a nice holiday with their friends or partners rather than having to go back to training and extend the season by 2 or 3 weeks.

I think we'll see a group of absolute monsters tomorrow. Against a side who likely won't want to be there, backed by fans who probably won't want them to win. Of course anything can happen, but I have so much confidence that we'll get the job done tomorrow and not leave it to Saints to do us any favours.

If you offered me Pep in charge over McKenna tomorrow I wouldn’t take him.

Leeds supporting colleague told me it would be "typical ipswich" for us to fall behind - Leeds win comfortbaly and think they are up and run on the pitch only for us to score a 97th min equalizer....

Pep needs to manage in the lower leagues to get a lot of respect from me. He's a top club specialist. Surely if you are a truly top manager you can go into Tottenham or Liverpool or Newcastle and get them winning titles.
I'm personally more impressed with KM, and he has a lot of good grace to go with it.

We’ll start quickly for sure, KMc will have them fired up and feeding off the crowd. I’m expecting Huddersfield to be tough to break down but around the 37th minute we’ll get ahead. I’ll go for Chappers. Pressure off and an early second half goal means the team can play at ease. A third goal will put the icing on the cake for a 3-0 Win and ….. Premiership!

I fully expect Huddersfield to score first, it's been the one feature of alot of games at home this season, away side scores first within the first 25mins & Town have to come back from a goal down etc etc. Fortunately we have the experience to know they can comeback from it and don't panic.

Leeds will score of that there's no doubt, depends how much Southampton want to press for a win that is really maybe just about momentum or having a psychological boost if that's who we might expect the ultimate final to be between

My head says we will win 3-0, scoring early in the game, just after half time and in the 83rd minute.

My heart says we will concede a 2nd minute goal, play like strangers, grab an equaliser in the 83rd minute before conceding a penalty in the 93rd minute which they miss.
