Careful! You'll have a load of very confused "progressives" laying into you if you express any republican views on here!

Charles seems to be fair game. Queen Lizzy on the other hand. She did so much for the country...

Good man. Might now be fashionable for professional knockers to have a go at him; perhaps they’d like to offer up their own histories of what similar efforts they’ve made to combat destruction of our natural world, and their own carbon footprints (neutral I’m sure?!), as well as suggest alternative methods of transport that’s secure for a head of state. I haven’t been on a plane since 1994 btw.

Showing off that privilege and wealth is what makes Britain great, apparently.

Well said Ryorry, couldn't agree more. However as one of the most balanced posters on TWTD, it doesn't surprise me.

In what sense? Charles talks about climate change and clearly expects everyone else to reduce their carbon footprint. Charles is personally more responsible for global warming than 99.999% of people on this planet. He travels around the world in private jets. He owns (and heats) multiple large residences. He owns multiple dairy farms. Essentially, he consumes far more than he needs to. And, unlike the British public, who he expects to be more environmentally conscious, Charles actually has the wealth to do it without it significantly impacting his lifestyle. Most of us don't have the luxury of investing in heat pumps or electric cars. He is not a green pioneer. He is an environmental NIMBY. [Post edited 4 Dec 2023 10:59]

I’d fall off my chair if any poster on here has a carbon footprint even a tenth of Charles’. For someone who professes to love the environment:- -part of a family which opted out of green law so their estates weren’t impacted -described fox hunting as romantic -travels by helicopter and private jet -has a portfolio of aging, energy intensive properties and fleets of vehicles Actions speak louder than words..

Read what Ryorry has written. What's your opinion on the many celebrities who you might idealise, that also travel by private jet? King Charles has done more for the environment than pretty much 99.999% of the remaining publc, including celebs. Very naive to think that he can fly commercial when carrying out his duties, representing our country.

Has he though? Has he really? You're the one with the celeb fixation, by the way. Nobody else has mentioned them. The simplest solution to making progress to net zero is to stop the billionaires yachts and planes. Charles is one of them. Let's start there.

I don't idealise any celebrities, and I am opposed to usage of private jets. What has Charles actually done? What has he sacrificed? Its very easy to talk about the environment, especially when you are presented with an unearned hereditary platform on which to do it. Most of the world runs on video conference these days. I have no issue with him and a small entourage occasionally flying first class commercial, which would provide ample security.

Do you not know how to argue? You have to make constructive, evidenced points. Maybe you'll convert me. Maybe I'll respect your opinion even if it is different to mine. These silly soundbites you keep replying with are rather undermining your argument.

As a general rule, it's to meaningfully contribute to the debate. Not so much on this thread admittedly, I saw that post and thought the poster had raised a pertinent point about your posting, hence my response to them. I'm happy to add to the debate here too though. Whilst it's good that KC3 uses his platform to champion environmental issues, given his own (and his family's) direct massive contribution to emissions it is hard to argue that there's not a fair old whack of hypocrisy going on. Not so much a champagne socialist as a gas guzzling environmentalist.
