Really need to cut these poor starts out. We've been fortunate to be able to get back into games previously, but we've pushed our luck too many times. West Brom were probably going to be miserly no matter what today, but we had no way through them for huge swathes of the game as they didn't leave gaps and overstretch and played a very smart press. They didn't need to (and as a result didn't) take any risks, which is a benefit of being given a quick lead. I'm certain McKenna will be looking back and trying to work out the remedy to West Brom setup, because Broadhead and Chaplin were non-existent for most of the game as they were squeezed between a tight midfield and a high line. Burns and Davis at least got in behind and got the ball into the box in the first half, but only on a handful of occasions. It's the most comprehensively we've been shut down offensively since he took charge, not helped by gifting goals. At least I'm still sure we can do a number on Millwall and Coventry. | |
