A. First the press portray the police as causing the death of youngsters buzzing around on electric motorbikes. Cue interviews with disgusted of toy town who think police should be prosecuted.
Then
B. The press report that electric motorbikes are a scurge on Bristol estates threatening the lives of the old and young alike by speeding through residential areas. Cue interviews with concerned citizens who want the police to do something about it!
Why can’t our press examine these issues with a degree of nuance rather than simply reporting an entrenched one sided argument which simply serves to entrench a public view one way or another.

The press gave up any pretence of carrying out your suggestion a long time ago. Some longer format pieces to deep dives into issues, but mostly it’s uncritical signposting of stuff. I guess they’re under pressure to fill the 24/7 cycle.
It is a bit rubbish. Much like those electric bikes. They’re a right pain on the estates in Swansea.
I actually thought that was quite an even-handed report that shows the difficulty the police face. Showing the two extreme positions and the tension held showed just how careful the police have to be and how they are in a no-win situation on it.

How are the kids even affording these bike
Who says they’re paying for them?
I’m only slightly joking here - a lot are being stolen. Also a lot you see flying around the estates appear to be weird DIY jobs. They don’t look much like the shiny £3k versions you see in bike shops.
