77/4 in the cricket on 11:02 - Oct 26 with 1869 views | Chrisd | We need to be put out of our misery. We keep limping along in the hope something will change? We’ve still got India and the Aussies to come and it seems like we can’t bat, bowl or field, but apart from that we should be ok?! If anything, it has highlighted that a few of our players are now past their best in this format. [Post edited 26 Oct 2023 11:12]

that's the problem with this format, very little jeopardy although we've finally reached that point i guess with this game.

Yes, England have been poor but the tournament as a whole has been dull. Maybe the semi-finals and final will liven that up but one close match and a couple of upsets after three weeks does not make for entertainment. And, as for England, we've stunk out some previous World Cups but, given the effort that went into 2019, this is as bad as anything since the 90s.

The tournament is much too long, which doesnt help. But England have been pathetic. Buttler cannot possibly remain after this debacle.

Been a really poor effort - up to now particularly, topley aside, by the seamers, but then we shouldn't be relying on them as much anyway. In a couple of the games if Rashid had been brought on 5-10 overs earlier it could have made the difference. But no chance this team was ever going to win it out there.

If we were losing games because of poor captaincy maybe, but just replacing him as captain won't fix the bowling, the batting or the fielding the whole team seem incapable of doing in these conditions. And who do you pick ? everyone in this team who is a candidate is already a busted flush in that regards. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He sets the mindset, the captaincy, has significant involvement in selection. Don't underestimate what Morgan did.

I saw some domestic 50 over cricket this year and while it was a good day out the standard was pretty poor, basically a B team competition with hardly any international or Hundred players. No wonder we were undercooked. If we insist on both the Hundred and 20/20 then might as well give up on the one day game.

Blaming the captain misses the real point, that the time is underprepared because it hasn't played enough one day cricket leading up to the tournament.

It also highlights the ECB don't care about 50 over cricket internationally now as well as domestically.

It doesn't help when Joe Root puts a T20 spell with the Dubai Capitals before a 50over tournament between South Africa and England earlier this year. Media and Joe seem to not be talking about that.

It's a shame, because at county level at least anything in the 40 to 50 over range made for a good day out. It's still well supported, even when the counties have their B-teams out these days.

Was it his choice to play only 2 warm up games, 1 got rained off, in England for a tournament in India, where the pitches are completely different to play on ? When we know England always struggle to play on slower pitches even before they try the hit and giggle format of playing. Is it his choice to block out a whole month for a competition no one else plays and relegates 50 over cricket to the sidelines. We didnt even play an odi series against Australia this year, because they had to fit the 100 in, we're playing those games next flipping year!!!! And if its selection then name some players from this squad you'd drop, and the players you'd pick to replace them ? This is our best 50 over odi squad, that's the problem, there aren't any standout replacements or captains to take over But don't worry Bazball will be back in January when we play India, on the same pitches as theyre playing now...
