Maybe McKenna needs a touch more edge. Most good managers have a touch of that. Maybe he's a touch too calm. It's hard to know from the outside but the players seem to think tactics and ability will win the day. But often it's guts and will.

Neil finished fifth at this level in his full season in charge of Sunderland.
I don't agree with the OP particularly in that I wouldnt want Alex Neil but he didn't have Sunderland for a season. He came in late and they got 3 last minute winners in a row to make the playoffs which they won. Wed should have won the semi but they got it done.
He's since jumped ship for money and done very little with Stoke.
