Was just thinking after referencing Burnley earlier that happened YEARS ago with a former poster. I expect some posters newer here must get confused often.

So, let’s say someone needed to study TWTD’s history for a TV special, and you had to summarise a TWTD exclusive saying or contextual quirk in relation to it’s origin/meaning, what would you say?

Fish puns - why do we do it? Why? You get sucked in but there is no enjoyment in all these tedious word associations; however it just takes one and then they are all over the plaice.

The Glasgow Swerve - how to avoid answering a difficult question that has you bang to rights.

Blub - whining too long about about a particular subject. Can also be used as an insult against someone who hasn't really whined on about a subject too long, or can be also be employed as deflection, similar to the Glasgow Swerve.

The football is better - overused and unfunny insult employed by Badger to highlight that one or two people suggested relegation would be better than watching more McCarthy football.

Dinosaur - way to describe an older manager, or his style of football.

Shaka Hislop - an untrue goalkeeper-joining rumour, still employed for comic effect long after his retirement.

What's your favourite cheese? - the standard measurement for determining a new poster's eligibility to be welcomed.

Straw Man - the skill of answering a difficult question by answering a different, much easier question which is and usually a gross exaggeration of the original question.

SUQ - a light-hearted and affectionate call for silence, now banned due to homophobic connotations.

Where can I buy a suit? - an unfunny and only partially true slur on one of our most beloved posters. See also "Haribo is better for you than a McDonalds Meal" and any references to potatoes.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

doing a dolly - digging such a deep hole for one self that it leads to a period of self-imposed absence and a change of name.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Given you an uppie for most of those but must take boring issue with your definition of a straw man, which is a term used seriously and often with venom in philosophy and logic:

'The typical straw man argument creates the illusion of having completely refuted or defeated an opponent's proposition through the covert replacement of it with a different proposition (i.e., "stand up a straw man") and the subsequent refutation of that false argument ("knock down a straw man") instead of the opponent's proposition. Straw man arguments have been used throughout history in polemical debate, particularly regarding highly charged emotional subjects.

Straw man tactics in the United Kingdom may also be known as an Aunt Sally, after a pub game of the same name, where patrons throw sticks or battens at a post to knock off a skittle balanced on top.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man A subtle but important difference here on the way an argument is shifted to inflict an apparent defeat on the opponent.

And Shaka Hislop - see also Hassan Kachloul. Neither of whom were the full Ian Crook...[edit} but were each more believable than a Batistuta or a Philipp Lamm.
