Any electricians out there? 16:59 - Apr 21 with 1437 views

One of our RCDs in the fuse box keeps tripping even though none of the associated trip switches are switched on. Everything is unplugged but the RCD will not stay in the "on" position.

Anyone any ideas?

Could there be anything with a heating element on the circuit, immersion for example?
Fridges are another favourite? I know not from what you said, but I thought it worth mentioning.

You could of course have a faulty RCD.

Dishwasher caused similar problem for us kept shorting and tripping the box. Had to get it - washer- mended

RCD works on earth to neutral fault, the MCB only isolate live to a circuit. Unplug everything you can and then try it. Probably a faulty appliance or oven element :o)

I had a problem like this which turned out to be the Immersion heater element being corroded. This problem can be caused by any fixed fitting in the house. How many RCD's do you have?

Isolate the heating as well, a faulty pump can sometimes cause similar.

Immersion is off. Everything on the associated rings/circuits is unplugged. Certainly haven't repaired anything (ever).

Extension leads coming in very handy.

Good that you got an electrician in, these things trip for a reason and safety is paramount.

By the way the fact that the immersion is off does not mean it is not the problem. Nuisance tripping of RCBs is usually associated with dampness or water.
