They don’t want the relationship to go south which it will very quickly if they go on the offensive. Just look how PL reacted when Phil asked a more pressing question.

To be fair to Lambert, he didn’t make excuses, accepted it’s not good enough and didn’t try to pretend that very bad errors were anything other than unacceptable.

I think he knows the season has gone. Nothing he can do or say seems to make a difference.
