Are we in 3rd gear... or actually top gear?
at 17:35 21 Sep 2019
Obviously brilliant to be top, undefeated, best defence, best goal difference. We are playing the most competent and consistent in league 1.
However, we have never really dominated a game or side (aside Bolton). The common consensus is we are just cruising in a low gear and we will end up dominating with beautiful performances and 4-0 wins.
However, are we actually playing to the best of our ability? Its fine for league 1 you do not need to play amazing football to get out of this league. The gap between league 1 and the championship is wider than we probably give credit to given the comparison we can give after 9 games vs 16 seasons.

So its lovely to see ourselves 2 points clear, +10 goal difference, undefeated and 3 clean sheets.
If Shrewsbury had someone who could finish, we could have been punished today. We look weakest at LB/ LCB at the moment, Kenlock just doesn't look comfortable on the ball and is too quick to he cautious.
KVY looked excellent, really bright. Woolfenden playing beyond his years. Downes and Skuse making it very difficult for Huws, Nolan et al to get back in at the moment.
We look so much better with two than one up top, even today when Jackson went off the increase in balls towards Norwood's head became obvious and were largely ineffectual. Thankfully at 3-0 it didn't really matter.
I think it is quite clear what our strengths and weaknesses are which is better to know than not.

Shirts in the club shop. Brilliant!

We are relying heavily on Norwood who is largely untested at this level. His strike partner is also untested at this level. We cannot rely on these two to get us the goals we need to finish games we are dominating. Today should have been wrapped up before they equalised. We really need another striker in (1 at least) more important than getting a defender in (I do think despite his stupid error that Chambers, along with Nsiala, Woolf and Wilson as number 4, will suffice this season).
Will Evans respond?
at 16:44 4 Aug 2019
Paul Lambert has pushed him into a corner. He has nailed his colours to the mast, and he is coming down on the side of the masses, unlike MM, who was most certainly in the corner of Mr Evans.
He is the first manager to put Evans into this position.

I honestly don't see us seriously challenging for promotion this season, we are at least 1 striker and 1 CB away from having a competent 11.
Even then we are looking weak overall; an over abundance of midfielders and limited quality elswhere

Its like a chronic illness. We really need to get rid or we will be on a highway to nowhere this season
What happened to Nydam?

Is he injured or out of favour?
Just thinking is he a contender with Emmanuel for the RB role next season rather than bringing another? I'd say he has a better football brain and on the ball than Emmanuel which would make up what he lacks perhaps in size and speed.
I just am not convinced Emmanuel is going to cut it. I like his attitude and hes a nice guy, just not quite good enough
That was pi$$ poor

Defence needs a reboot before we do anything else. No quality or leadership worth a pot to pi$$ in there

Whilst I have hardly been shy of calling out the shower of sh1t that has been this season on so many levels, I am holding onto the cautious optimism that we were never annihilated this season and many games were either draws or 1 goal defeats. What was our worst defeat, 3-0? I cannot remember us shipping any more than 3.
We don't need to go mad in the summer with signings. We need to get a couple of better players in defence and in attack. Whilst we should build around our younger players, Chambers Skuse and Judge, albeit better days behind them, will be important.
I just hope we do not keep adding injury prone players to our squad. The players with most quality are the injured ones.

Is it safe to scrutinise Lambert yet?
at 07:53 11 Apr 2019
He has failed to turn around our form, his signings have made little impact. Our apparent attempts to play "better football" has seen us comprehensively relegated.
Anyone up to the age of 20 will not have memories of us being anything but Championship mediocrity finally dumped, and not give a sh1t about it. Horrible thought that.

Disaster, abysmal, catastrophic bloody season this has been in every bloody way, from big to little, on and off the pitch

Evans interview with Watson

Much more of the same, nothing new learnt.
The sad truth is when ME started he was a competitive fish, his financial backing were days where £6- 10m could get you promoted.
Now he is a very small fish. ME has not changed, rather football has massively changed around him and he is swept along with no ability to be able to reverse the tide alone.
I don't think I really blame him too much. Losing the best of the crop of youngsters etc. is something he has no power to reverse.
The one thing I cannot forgive him is the appointment of Hurst. Yes we all wanted a young upcoming manager with potential, but what we want is the 'job application '. Who you appoint is the 'interview. ME interviewed Hurst and decided he was the best candidate. Hurst was missing so much that was essential (the bigger picture other than an immediate rebuild for example, and his limited football network as another) that ME should have taken into account before appointing him.
