Chambers - some balanced debate perhaps 09:20 - Mar 3 with 1267 viewssotd78

In a back three on the right yesterday he and Collins were done for pace. In the middle with younger quicker team mates he is a good leader. Centre half play is also about organ
isaion, leadership etc.
So who's at fault when a player gets slower and is asked to play in a position they cannot do?

We have spent most of Chambers career here asking him to play in positions that are not HIS best. Whose fault is that?

So, for just once let's cut the guy some slack...and really if we want to get promoted next season accept that we need some experience around which we play younger players. Play Chambers in the middle - as the right centre back of a back four or the middle of a back three. In those slots he's a fine player and a great captain.

He's just too slow now and unlike Collins, Mowbray, De Vos isn't positionally good enough to make up for that fundamental lack of pace. He's been getting exposed time and time again. He will be here next season in some capacity but iMO he shouldn't be in the starting 11.

Nope, just shouldn’t be playing. Not good enough. Has one good game in 10, the other 9 usually does something that contributes to us conceding. He’s too slow, not good with the ball and dominated aerially. Not really anything left to do as a centre back. One slight positive from him yesterday was he played a couple of really nice cross field launches with intent after lookig up.

He’s a great man for what he does for the club but part of the reason for us being relegated with his preformances consistently being so poor. The same for Bart at start of season and even Pennington, hell the whole back 5 has been attrocious for most the season.

Agreed , a good experienced pro makes up for lack of pace by good anticipation and being alert to danger …………….sorry but Chambers doesn't manage any of this .

He was at fault for both goals yesterday we need to be replacing him and finding a skipper that inspires and encourages those around him , I didn't see any of that yesterday in such an important game

If you think he will suddenly not be too slow in L1 you are completely wrong. A lot of L1 teams base their squads on pace on the counter attack, thats why Jackson was so good last season.

Other than a good leader i just dont see what he adds, poor passer of the ball, lacks height and dominance in the air, and now lost at least 5 yards of pace.

Need to start again at the back, go with Wolfenden and Toto next season id say. Or bring someone else in.

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

Luke Chambers has been a great asset for the club. His skills are declining due to age and he is no longer a Championship-level defender. At this point in a career, many players drop down a level or two and play for another year or two. From a business point of view Ipswich, whose plans will involve rebuilding with young players, should move on.

Cole Skuse has also been a great asset for the club, but is approaching a comparable stage in his career. The departures of Luke Chambers, Cole Skuse and Jonas Knudsen would represent a clean break with a difficult era in Town's history. Although the sense of a fresh start would be positive, it need not (and should not) involve any minimization of the high value of these players' past contributions.

Not just him though was it. All 4 centre halves who played yesterday were culpable
