Realistically how much investment will be needed in the summer to prevent another relegation battle?
Not taking into account replacements for departing players or possible signings this Jan, I would say the following is the bare minimum we would need:
LB, RB, CB, LM, ST.
I would say we're looking at about £5m+ there, not sure I can see that being spent without player sales, and let's face it, Roberts, Spence, Donacien, Nsiala etc aren't going to bring in much. Obviously loans could play a part but we will be needing those just to bolster the squad when current loanees/out of contract players leave..
I know this is probably the least of our concerns at the moment and in all likely won't be relevant, but thought it was worth a discussion. |  | | |  |

Seems to me like if we still had Waghorn and Garner we would probably be OK.
We need to replace them adequately.

We're massively far away, 10 points adrift at the bottom of the league. It would have taken more than bloody Waghorn and Garner to keep us up! Why do we still think we're not far off a good side with this squad? We've won twice all season.
It's hands down the worse Ipswich team there has ever been.
So yes, we are that far away. We'd struggle in the league below with this squad. |  |

If we managed to stay up we will have been performing at play off level or better over the rest of the season. Therefore not much will need changing and we should be in really strong position going into next season.
But sadly a more relevant question is probably how bad would this squad be in League 1. I fear we would be comfortably bottom half of league 1 at moment. | | | |

Impossible to answer. Lambert seems quite shrewd. I think if we looked back to last summer there must have been many free agents we tuned our nose up at who would do a job. Ross Wallace went to Fleetwood. I bet we'd have more points if he came here. |  |
