We seem to be bad at developing young goalkeepers. Was the last one to come through Richard Wright? |
| News Comment | McKenna: After the Seasons We've Had There Was Always Going to Be Speculation at 09:51:47
I would be surprised if he went to Chelsea because 1) their owners are a bad joke, 2) he would have virtually no influence or control over transfers, 3) they sack managers too often, 4) they tend to go for “name” managers with Prem experience. Brighton are more worrying; I could see him going there. |
| News Comment | McKenna Bookies' Favourite For Brighton Job at 12:58:42
The Sunday Telegraph Sort section today has a headine, “Brighton eye McKenna as De Zerbi exits”. They say, “Brighton are expected to make a move for Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna after announcing that Roberto De Zerbi will leave the club following their final match of the season today … Brighton are understood to be huge admirers of McKenna, who has led Ipswich to back-to-back promotions and is regarded as one of the brightest young managers in the European game. It remains to be seen, however, whether McKenna would be willing to leave Ipswich this summer, so soon after leading them into the Premier League. |
| News Comment | Hutchinson: Ipswich Town Will Always Have a Place in My Heart at 23:17:11
He was a wonderful signing and has turned out to be a superb player. Unfortunately, Chelsea are up against their PSR limits and they rarely promote in-house talent, preferring to buy in. Therefore, the likelihood is that he will be sold to the highest bidder which is unlikely to be us. |
| News Comment | McKenna Linked With Manchester United at 12:35:57
Why should KMc take the Man Utd job if it was offered to him? Assuming that we are talking about the manager’s job (as opposed to assistant), then the reasons would be as follows: 1) the money. The pay is likely to be far better at Man Utd than Ipswich, 2) Man Utd is an established Prem club, we aren’t. It is very difficult to establish yourself as a Prem club; just ask Burnley if you don’t agree (they waltzed the Championship only to be relegated in their first season). 3) KMc won’t want a relegation on his CV, 4) Sir Jim Ratcliffe is sorting out the structure and appointing top people in the right places, 5) that they are in a bit of a shambles at the moment means that they are at a relatively low base that maximises his chances of improving on it and getting the credit. 6) the chance to work with top international players as opposed to the League One/Championship level ones that we have. |
| News Comment | Goodman: I've Been Nothing But Complimentary About Ipswich at 08:05:47
I dislike criticising individual players as it is a team game and we all make mistakes. If you concede 57 goals over a season then that cannot be the fault of one player. However, I do fear what the likes of Haaland will do to us. We have to be stronger at the back somehow, be it a change of personnel or tactics. Also, the team as a whole has very little Premiership experience, we will need to buy some in. |
| News Comment | Hutchinson Recalled to Chelsea at 07:35:28
It seems quite simple. Chelsea have a problem with the profit and sustainability rules. He is a marketable asset. They have recalled him to assess him with a view to selling to the highest bidder. The last thing that they will want is for him to leave at the end of his contract. Whatever happens do not blame the lad as it’s only partly under his control. |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 2-0 Huddersfield Town - Match Report at 14:45:09
What a wonderful result after a superb season. Well done to all at the Club, especially KMc. My prediction at the outset was that we would finish at the lower end of the play offs (5th or 6th) and fail to be promoted, so I am delighted to be proved wrong! The only slight blemish is that if we had beaten Preston away then we would now be Champions, but that must not detract from an excellent result overall. |
| News Comment | McKenna: Proud Night Individually and For Everyone at the Club at 08:08:49
Well done! Congratulations to KMc. Unfortunately, Prem clubs will be watching. If an established Prem club such as Brighton or West Ham are looking for a new manager in the summer they could make him a big fat offer which I suspect that he would accept. I hope that I am wrong. |
| News Comment | McKenna Nominated For Manager of the Season at 15:50:20
If you think that two years ago we were a mid-table League One side and that this season we are competing against three clubs which should never have been relegated from the Prem then his achievements are huge. The problem will be keeping him. Just the other day “Football Insider” were reporting that Man Utd saw him as a future manager of them, but the article didn’t say if they saw him as a replacement for Ten Hag or something longer term. |
| News Comment | Young Duo on Trial at QPR at 15:40:45
Last summer I was on a work related course in an hotel on the Loughborough University campus. The West Ham u-18s were there as well. The hotel had been instructed to put out lots of healthy eating options for them, which they did, but all the lads were interested in doing was shovelling crisps, fizzy drinks and cake down their gobs. Their coaches were no better. I hope that this youngster has more self-discipline. |
| News Comment | Ipswich Town 3-2 Bristol City - Match Report at 08:55:00
A wonderful win, but another two goals conceded at home. That means that we have now conceded 29 goals from 18 home matches, an average of 1.6 per game. Only Plymouth have a worse record, even the teams in the relegation spots are letting in fewer. I hope that we are promoted, but I fear what will happen if we are and the defence is not improved substantially. |
| News Comment | European Clubs 'Monitoring' Hutchinson at 12:01:24
It is said (denied by them) that Chelsea need to raise £100 million by the end of June to comply with their financial fair play requirements. Selling home grown players is important as the fee is treated as pure profit. |
| News Comment | McKenna: My Full Focus and Commitment is On Town at 16:24:05
I was watching a YouTube video recently and a football finance expert pointed out that Leicester have their squad valued on their books at £400 million whilst Ipswich have spent £10 million. Look, KMC is like the rest of us. If he is offered promotion to a Prem Club with all its resources and a huge increase in wages then he will go; wouldn’t you? We will just have to get on with it and find a new manager (just like Brighton do). |
