Outsiders might be surprised by a manager whose record reads played 32, won four, drawn 10, lost 18 receiving such overwhelming backing, but Lambert's popularity with fans in his first season has been to a great extent down to his concerted efforts to repair the badly broken relationship between club and supporters.
While performances improved and there was a clear attempt to play football in a manner in keeping with the club's traditions, results evidently were still far from what was required to avoid relegation.
Despite that, there remained a belief that fans are viewed as an integral part of the club by Lambert and his management team, having appeared little more than an annoyance to certain other bosses.
But there's no doubt Lambert's honeymoon period will come to a swift end if results aren't significantly better in League One and Town aren't in the upper reaches of the table from early on.
