TWTD Questionnaire 2020/21

Q39 How would you rate Paul Lambert's performance as manager during 2020/21?

Not too much surprise that Paul Lambert's performance during 2020/21 is given short shrift. In fact it's very similar to how his performance in 2019/20 was viewed when 41.5 per cent voted very poor and 34.5 per cent poor.

But for Covid and the five-year deal so ridiculously handed to him on New Year's Day 2020 it seems likely Lambert would have been sacked last summer after failing so abjectly in Town's first season in League One.

The new campaign followed much the same pattern with the Blues starting well before falling away as relationships with those close to the club - including TWTD - deteriorating.

When a manager begins to ban members of the media and speak to other journalists just doing their job in the manner that he did the end is never too far away.

That a situation which was doing the club real harm was allowed to drag on so long was an illustration of the failing governance of the club under Marcus Evans.

After his spell at Town, it's difficult to see Lambert getting another job in management. It's equally hard to see, on the evidence of his time at Portman Road, how he was able to achieve success earlier in his career.
