Merry Christmas From TWTD
at 12:09:10

Thank you Phil and Gav (and Mark!) for making the experience of following Ipswich Town FC from afar, a million times more enjoyable than it would be just by pressing F5 on whatever "Latest Scores" website seems best in any given season.

I've been reading these pages for almost 25 years now, and through all the ups & downs the Town has taken, you two (and three!) have been consistently brilliant!

Pigott: I Just Want to Play Football
at 10:18:27

A loan move back to AFC Wimbledon might be the best thing for the lad.

They've recently changed formation to go more direct, and are on a decent run of form in the league as a result. After winning about two games in a thousand (or so it seemed!) and dropping out of League One last season, they're only three points off the playoffs despite starting the season almost as badly as they ended last season.

Pigott would be a good fit there I think, the fans love him and he already knows the place.

Town Confirm Pigott Signing
at 22:59:06

I've been following AFC Wimbledon for several years now - sorry to see him leave The Real Dons, especially given his contribution to yet another late-season great-escape act from the London club, but if he's given the right sort of service, Joe Pigott will certainly prove to be an absolutely smashing signing.

A very intelligent footballer, decent from set pieces and a hard worker to boot. Excellent news!

Bishop: I Don’t Think I’ve Ever Scored a Header in Training
at 13:43:29

"Teddy Bishop couldn't recall even scoring a header in training" - in fairness to the lad he's entitled to a bit of amnesia after lashing that one in with his noggin yesterday.

Well done lad!!

Blues Among Clubs Linked With Barry Town Full-Back
at 15:09:10

Well this is all very confusing.

His club's name sounds like it should be his own name and his own name sounds like it might get read out during the classifieds at 4.45 on a Saturday afternoon.

And he joined Barry in 2007 (aged 10 going on 11 if he's 22 now) and switched from midfield to right-back. That's fair enough for one day but on other days wouldn't he have to play between the jumpers as a sticky-keeper and other days when he was the one with the longest pants he'd have to be the lad who fetches the ball when it gets kicked into the nettles?

Apart from that yeah a right back would be great!

Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 Ipswich Town - Highlights
at 12:08:23

The highlights from Wednesday's official channel are a good bit longer, including Harrison's hesitation when in a decent position near the end of the game.

I watched the sending off in slo-mo a few times - I really don't think that was even a foul, let alone a red.

Hurst: We May Have to Be Patient on Signings
at 18:35:46

Six hours into his new job and he realises we're basically broke :-) Yikes!!

Looks like we're doomed so, I mean what's this guy ever done with a small-ish club and a tiny budget?!

I've given it a good shake, and my only slightly-cloudy crystal ball is predicting a repeat of the double-whammy of the 1960-61/1961-62 seasons! Only this time, WITH wingers!! ;-)

Town Confirm Hurst Appointment
at 11:54:53

Looking over his career statistics, he's done rather well but seems to be a bit of a nearly-man.

On that basis I look forward to seeing Ipswich Town FC finishing as runners up in the Premier League in a couple of short years from now, second only on goal-difference to Manchester City having played them at the Etihad Stadium on the last day, beating them 4-0 but having needed a 5-0 win to have secured top spot.

Best of luck to Paul & Chris, and all those who play for them!

Carabao Cup Tie With Palace at Selhurst Park
at 00:35:39

Update: Late unconfirmed reports are suggesting that the tie will be played simultaneously both home and away. Whoever wins on aggregate qualifies.

If it's a draw then there will be a trolley-race between the tea-ladies of the opposing teams across their own home grounds, winner takes it all (order your tea early as there mightn't be much left in the pot after the 90-yard dash).

If the two sides still can't be separated then the team with the least number of letters in their name goes through two rounds automatically and the longer-named team becomes a yellow ball in the shape of the inside of a kinder-egg in the draw for the next round. The significance of the yellow ball-egg will be clarified a couple of hours after the draw for the next round is made.

I think that's right now unless we hear otherwise.
