Peterborough United 1-1 Ipswich Town (5-6 on Pens) - Match Report

A lot of positives to take from last night. Przybek certainly didn't do his prospects any harm by the sound of it. And Cotter must be buzzing to mark his 21st birthday with the winning penalty kick. Especially nice to win a shoot out. I know we haven't won too many of those down the years. The one that always sticks in my mind is when we lost to Chelsea on pens in the League Cup after a really exciting 2-2 draw. Remember Mathie scoring. And what most sticks out about that night was seeing Gullit play as he came off the bench as a player manager to replace an injured player. He was a class act.

Donacien: Cup Rotation Has Benefited Me
at 21:28:43

"Ranieri earned himself the nickname of 'The Tinkerman' during his Chelsea days, repeatedly altering his starting XI, but has seemingly changed his policy at the King Power Stadium after making just 27 changes all season - a Premier League low."
https://www.goal.com/en/news/13712/extra-time/2016/04/29/22932472/the-tinkerman-
I know one example isn't necessarily going to translate from one club to another, however, there could be a lesson for us in there somewhere given when Ranieri chopped and changed at Chelsea he eventually ended up getting sacked, whereas when he barely shuffled the pack at Leicester he ended up winning the Premier League.

Best wishes Jason. We're all rooting for you. Sounds like you've had a bad run of late but hopefully better times are waiting just around the corner for you. One of my favourite players when growing up.

Lincoln City 0-1 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 08:11:11

@RobsonWark, I didn't have such high expectations at all. I thought the game was going to go to extra time and penalties! I'm just posing the question that now we are through will we play a stronger line up possibly in round 2 with the chance of a big name looming on the horizon? I expect not. I guess it will depend on when the next fixture falls (I haven't checked yet) and what league games we have near to then. Coventry have been going well this season and if they decide to go for it and we don't, then it's going to be a tough ask away from home. There could be good money for the club with a decent 3rd round tie (if we get lucky out of the hat) so it's worth taking seriously.

Wow an FA Cup tie win, sure hope I don't have to wait 10 years to enjoy another! Great to see Judge get off the mark, could be just what he needed in order to get his confidence going again. I was pretty convinced this was going to go all the way to penalties (and we've got a woeful record in penalty shoot outs) so was nice to see Judge spare us the added stress of extra time and pens. I wonder how seriously we'll take it against Coventry away in the next round given the chance of a big name possibly in the hat the for the winner. Norwich at home in the 3rd round? Oh why not! COYB!!!

Folami Nets as Australia's U23s Hammer China
at 13:59:32

Seems the model of importing loads of mercenaries into Chinese football (and paying them megabucks for the privilege) is not doing much to bring on their own domestic players. I remember Wales thumping the Chinese first team not so long ago. China have proven very capable in a lot of sports but they've still got a very long way to go in football.

@Steve_ITFC_Sweden, yeah will have been a good development / learning experience for Folami last night. He didn't do his future chances any harm on that showing.

A possible wildcard for the season. Keane has looked well below par this season (aside from his goal against Gillingham), so perhaps Folami could force his way ahead of him in the pecking order. Not sure how far off Sears is but we could do with somebody in the meantime to make Norwood and Jackson look over their shoulders, as so far, Keane hasn't performed well enough for them to be overly worried about their own starting places.

The Sides Town Could Meet Away in the Next Round of the Leasing.com Trophy

This tournament really could do with being simplified. For starters, I don't think all the group games are necessary, surely a straight knock out would be the best option.

Yes it's definitely lost its shine, such a shame. Even the draw for the 3rd Round used to be a huge thing. Winning the FA Cup would be right up there with winning the league, or some would of argued even better, but now it's not deemed anything like as important as winning the league title. The Premier League has so much to answer for!

Ipswich Town 1-1 Lincoln City - Match Report

The magic of the FA Cup is being extinguished by so many teams fielding such weakened sides. The only upside I can see to this is that perhaps it's giving a chance to teams that take it seriously to go on and have a really good crack at winning it or at least getting a decent run. But sadly the stock of the FA Cup is getting devalued by so many managers who see the league as the be all and end all. Watching the televised FA Cup semi finals and final used to be a real highlight of each season when I was growing up. People would literally sit in all day on Cup Final day watching everything from the teams arriving on the coach to the band playing before the game. It used to be a real big event. Now it's been moved to a tea time kick off, it just doesn't feel the same. Maybe I'm getting old but the FA Cup has really lost it's shine for me. I'm actually more keen on the early rounds now watching how some of the non-league teams get on than I am when it gets down to the semi final stage, where usually it's left to be decided by the likes of Man City and Chelsea.

Ipswich Town 0-2 Rotherham United - Match Report

Really poor effort tonight. If we lose away to Southend on Saturday then it really will have been a grim week indeed (as if it wasn't already)! Was hoping to see a big reaction tonight but sadly nowhere to be seen. We need to get things back on track Saturday if not we look in danger of dropping down the league like a stone. Still not down and out but definitely big concerns after the last two games.

Oh dear, not going to plan. Still got the second half to try and turn things around but they're going to need to raise their game a lot more than they showed first half. Can't grumble about Lambert's team selection, I wouldn't of gone for much different to what he tried tonight. Danny Rowe seemed quiet first half. He started the season fairly bright but not been so effective of late. Hopefully he and the others can raise their game second half. COYB!!!

Accrington Stanley 2-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 09:32:37

I would of preferred to see Keane up top with Jackson yesterday. Jackson looked like he badly needed help yesterday. Judge hasn't scored for us in about 29 or 30 games so based on that alone I would of had Keane up top instead all day long! Judge is using all his excuses up now, i.e. return from injury and being unsettled by QPR interest. I was hoping he would be one of our star players in League One but so far he's fallen short of expectations. Still 3/4 of the season to turn his form around but it's clear some our getting frustrated by his level of performances so far. And the same is true of Dozzell. Yes he can pick a pass but sadly games seem to pass him by. Personally I'd have Downes (I know he wasn't available for selection yesterday) and even Dobra (who looked bright before his sending off) ahead of him in the pecking order now. And yesterday Huws would of been the obvious choice ahead of Dozzell. As has been said above several times, we badly need KVY, Downes, Wilson and Norwood back asap. Norwood's finishing has been off the money of late but I'd still back him to score a lot more goals than Judge. Up front it needs to be a combination of either Jackson and Norwood (when he's back) or Jackson and Keane. And if we're behind and looking in need of a goal to get us back in the game I'd rather we bring on one of our strikers on the bench (which we didn't do yesterday) than a midfielder. If you're going to make three substitutes at least make one of those Keane in a game like yesterday.
Lambert has credit in the bank after having not lost a league game all season so we can't be too harsh but we all learned some harsh lessons yesterday. That is, some of our players unfortunately (at least on the showing yesterday) don't look cut out to battle it out in trenches. Let's hope we bounce back Wednesday night if not the gloss of this season will have started to peel off some.
