Swans Recall Whittaker From Plymouth
at 19:43:30

Granted its the plymouth local rag .. but the quote on Plymouth live is that

Director of football Neil Dewsnip is confident League One leaders Plymouth Argyle will not be 'knocked off course by the disappointing loss' of Morgan Whittaker.

Club officials received formal confirmation late this afternoon that Swansea City would recall the talented 21-year-old attacker from his scheduled season-long loan with the Pilgrims to play a part in their Championship campaign.

Hoping the part he is going to play in their championship campaign is going to be to get them some funds!

Ipswich Town 2-5 Bolton Wanderers - Match Report
at 04:20:14

There comes a time in the life of every manager at any club at which point they lose the supporters. It doesn't really matter what they say or do afterwards its just a matter of time till they are shown the exit door.

For example...

For Mick McCarthy it was when he reacted to the fans at Norwich.
Paul Hurst - I think was the loss to Exeter in the FA cup and berating the players on the pitch.

Felt until today his job was fairly safe with all the money he has been given for investment in the team, the numbers of players he has brought in for whom he was allegedly one of the reasons so many came/dropped down a league.

BUT I think today was that day for Paul Cook. Where despite the optimism of all the new signings, and the hope was the international break would give the team more time to gel, and settle. But things went backwards. A LOT.

He needs a miracle now to keep his job and I can't see any sign of one coming at this rate.

He's lost the majority of supporters now I feel.

AND He's heaped all the pressure onto Morsy ... I know the characteristics of a Samy Morsy type, for example, which will be everything that we lacked today. He will be there times 10 for that. ... what happens now if we lose when Morsy makes his debut???!!!

Think he's got maybe 2-3 league matches now to save his job. If that.

Would love for him to succeed, because I want the club to succeed, but TICK ... TOCK ....TICK.. TOCK.. time's running out Mr Cook.

Morsy Confirmed as Final Signing of Window
at 21:49:26

Saw on another thread someone sayiong Ashton might be the best sigining of the summer ... and then saying the latest player to be signed might be the next best...

This transfer window has been amazing.... and there is no doubt Ashton has done an amazing job, supported by the new owners.

But I wonder how significant our "other" no.17 signing has been in funding all this ...

Ed Sheeran

The sales of club shirts must have made a significant contribution towards enabling all these transfers and wages for the quality of players brought in.

Just hope everyone will give the new players time to settle etc.

Not least Bersant Celina moving from another country, after quite a dramatic run of health scares.

Building a High Performance Team at ITFC
at 01:51:14

Extremely well written blog.

As forr all the changes and those moaning ... would they prefer to still have Marcus Evans and his levels of investment in the squad through this transfer window?

The truth is .. Marcus Evans seemed to have lost interest. The previous squad was full of players that had been part of the decline of the club over years. They had had their chance .. many of them. With the new ownership a new direction was needed.

Whatever you may think of Paul Cook's treatment of last seasons squad they had to go. They were part of the problem. Too many injury prone players. Too many of the same mistakes match after match. Downes who had never been interested after his transfer request was refused. Chambers and Skuse etc. who had been part of squad after squad finishing each and every season worse than the last and whose ages meant t their best days are long behind them. And a youth set up where as soon as any player showed any glimpse of potential was made to feel as if they were the next Messi(ah) to lead us back to the premier league. They aren't.

When you look at the calibre of players bought this transfer window and compare to the released players and where they have ended up - there really is no contest. On paper at least this new lot SHOULD be far far better. BUT as the blog says its going to take time.

As for Paul Cook; for me last season doesn't really count. Managers know - new owners probably means they are going to be out the door. I believe the squad knew their days were numbered too - not least with the lack of discussions over new contracts etc even under the old regime long before Paul Cook arrived at Portman Road. Paul Lambert was on record as saying how shocked he was with how contracts hadn't been sorted out when he first arrived at the club and how that mustn't be allowed to happen again - yet it did for even more players than usual.

So we need to be patient. It's going to take time. Fantastic if promotion comes this season but it may not. Look back through all the interviews, the fans forum etc with the new owners, Mark Ashton etc. They recognise it may take more than one season that its going to take time.

Absolutely its worrying that we get turned over by Cheltenham, Burton, Newport reserves but its only been 3 games in the league so far. Where each game has included new players in the squad - some of which probably haven't even had much or even any time on the training ground with their new teammates.

The results WILL come with this squad.

As the blog says - just be patient!

Cook: Mariner Was a Superstar of a Footballer and a Superstar of a Man
at 17:32:32

Paul was genuinely my hero.

He is the player that got me interested in ITFC back in the day. When I was 6 years old our house was up for sale... parents got a call from the estate agent that a Mr Mariner wanted to come and view it .... we didn't know for sure if it was him but knew that the odds were high it would be ... not likely to be many Mr Mariners in the Ipswich area we thought. I was so nervous and hid in my bedroom which was covered wall to wall floor to ceiling with ITFC and in particular Paul Mariner posters and cuttings from matchday programmes. As I was sat there on the bed there was a gentle knock on the door, it opened and in he walked .. wow he seemed so tall. I was utterly speechless. He smiled asked how I was and all I could do was offer up a pen I had beside me. He graciously signed everything in the room for me.. still have them all.

Not many times I have cried over people dying. David Bowie was the only one before Paul.

RIP Paul

EFL to Meet This Morning to Make Decision on Games
at 09:15:52

Don't think there is any decision to be made ... clubs player/staff base being affected by it ... whilst the argument about being in the "open stadiums" therefore risk is minimal doesn't exactly stand up when queuing to get through turnstiles, for a drink and food etc. The only surprise is .. they haven't reached the decision to suspend all events including sports already.

Especially given "Many more families are going to lose loved ones" [Boris Johnson March 12th 2020]

Town Open Lambert Contract Talks Claim
at 11:10:05

Don't think it's anything to do with Sunderland's situation ... other than that they have sacked their manager ... and it's now sacking season across Europe as owners decide to gamble to get someone different to what they have to get a better idea of what changes need making ahead of both the frantic number of matches over Christmas and New Year ... and not least the transfer window opening in January. Even if PL isn't being mentioned much/at all in connection with the Sunderland job given the inevitable number of sackings coming over the next few weeks he is bound to be connected to at least one of those.

Hope he stays. What a breath of fresh air he has created with the club!

Mayor Joins Plymouth
at 19:21:58

No idea if there were serious negotiations or not ... but the facilities in Plymouth are outstanding and far above what I would expect for many Championship sides. They use the Life Centre and MarJon Uni facilities a lot. Both sites are training sites for many Olympic medal winners. Regularly see Plymouth Argyle players and coaching teams at both sites when I am there on a regular basis through work.

Lambert Targeting Both Promotion and Rebuilding For Long Term
at 13:41:43

Agree pre-season is going to be key .. far too often the clubs transfer business done far too late.

Comparing the squad vs West Ham and vs Norwich on 2nd Sept. Of the 17 that made it onto the pitch vs West Ham in last years final pre-season match only 6 were still making it onto the pitch once the transfer window had closed. Pre-season became irrelevant and most of the squad were having to gel once we were already struggling in the league. That was always going to mean we were going to struggle for the remainder of the season.

BUT to those thinking we are going to rip up League One next year ... we don't exactly have a great record vs League one teams .. or even lower .. over recent years.

Here's hoping though ... and hope PL will be given time to build HIS team rather than be judged on what he was able to do/not do with the squad he inherited in the dire position it was already in.

Also wish PL would give a little more detail with his fan pleasing comments.... All on here ... and beyond with any interest in ITFC have our opinions that "standards have dropped"... well thats obvious once upon a time we won the UEFA cup .. now we are in League one.... so .. what exactly does he mean by that? And how has he already addressed that? Whats the plan other than keep repeating that "we need a little bit of help?"

Blues Linked With Renewed Tilt Interest
at 16:17:31

The Nsiala/Nolan deal needed the money from the Waghorn deal to go through ... so for not getting this done during the window in time I guess the funds simply weren't there .. especially with the way Blackpool were dealing with it...

With Garner though being sold in the last minutes of the window .. perhaps this is why the funds are now there and even to be closer to the amount Blackpool were asking for in the first place.

Do I expect all the new signings to work? No. But it would be fantastic if they all did.
Do I expect it to all fit together overnight and we are suddenly unbeatable and going to win the league before Christmas? No.
Do I expect the football to be more entertaining than the last few years …. YES!

Lots of points ...

1) After previous years and not just referring to MM this is an exciting time.

2) We have had squads of players with plenty of championship experience and most seasons of late been struggling. Championship experience is not necessarily the be all and end all. Nor is Premiership experience. Mbappe seemed to do ok at the World Cup .. despite no World cup experience.. same for most of the England team too!

3) New manager - wants HIS team that can play HIS way and adapt to HIS ideas.

4) Waghorn offer was too good to turn down given how much he had cost a year ago.

5) Not only will some of last seasons squad become set in their ways under MM ... BUT also some may well have simply wanted out after the toxic atmosphere at many games over a sustained period of time ... look at the treatment of Douglas, and many others since.

6) Certainly not expecting a squad with this many new members, AND a new manager to gel together overnight - this season is very much a rebuilding project - at all levels within the club.

7) For the first time in years .. there is genuine competition for places .. no more "proper blokes" ....

8) AND this will also hopefully lead to the much hoped for improved cup runs .. which are vital for a club such as ours for the injection of funds they can provide - and ignored under previous managerS

9) With the papers/pundits/bookies making us 3rd favourites for relegation .. thats been based on the squad with plenty of championship experience ....which no longer exists!

Keep hoping. Be patient. More signings??

Yes please!!!
