Cornell: We Showed a Different Side
at 15:57:16

I mean, we conceded more or less as many chances to Oxford as we did Charlton, so I'm not sure we showed much more resilience to be honest.

Garbutt and Bishop Out But Huws Fit For Sunderland Trip
at 14:38:29

@miltonsnephew: think pretty much every club feels like their club's injury record is worse than the rest, but I don't really think it is. Currently we've got 2 long-term injuries from this season - KVY (~4 months) and Rowe (2 months and counting), 2 out from the Summer (Nydam and Lankester) and 2 with minor injuries (Garbutt and Bishop). That's well within the bounds of normal for a squad our size.

Lambert: You Always Want to Add But Funds Could Depend on Sales
at 10:01:07

Where does this pessimism that we're going to sell our young players on the cheap come from? People spent most of the Summer 100% certain we'd cash in on Dozzell and Judge but we didn't (and maybe should have!).

If we weren't prepared to take a substantial offer for a 31-year-old with a big contract and a history of injuries, we clearly aren't desperate to raise money. Subsequently our financial situation is only likely to have improved (we probably weren't banking on having our highest home attendances since 2014-15) and we're well positioned for promotion (recent form aside). Unless you think Evans gets some perverse pleasure in sabotaging the club there's no reason why we would looking undersell our players.

Lambert's Opinion of Leasing.com Trophy Unchanged as Blues Face Peterborough
at 14:10:16

I'd like to see us go all out to win FA Cup ties but this reserve team nonsense? No, thanks. Use it to get some minutes for fringe players and youth.

Even in its old format, I wouldn't think it worth bothering with. Hardly a moment of pride to lift a trophy we're only competing in because we're playing at our lowest level for 60 years!

In the new format, every team taking it seriously is further incentive for the football league to persist with B teams to the detriment of the football league. The sooner we're out of it the better.

Lambert: Judge Has Indicated He'd Like the Opportunity
at 08:09:25

All very well saying "we only want players committed to the club" but that's not football in 2019. In reality every single player at the club would take a better offer if it suited them, they're professionals doing work for money. Judge, as far as we know, has let the club know he'd be interested in a move to QPR. There has been no indication he'd be "disaffected" if it didn't happen or that he'd put any less than 100% effort in. So, his preference doesn't change anything, as far as I can see. If QPR make an acceptable offer, we take it and move on. If they don't, Judge stays and has every motivation to continue playing as well as he can for us, even if only to get this move that he wants.

As for the idea that it's bad business to keep players who don't want to play for you, actually the opposite is true. If you become a club that caves as soon as any player an interest in a move how on earth do you keep players of any value? Every club in England knows that all you have to do is put in a low bid, then wait for the player to complain a little. You'll be held to ransome by everyone. Over the long term it's better just to put a price tag on, let everyone know where they stand and if it's not met, tough, everyone stays where they are.

Blues Offer Dozzell New Deal With Canaries Among Premier League Clubs Showing Interest
at 16:44:04

Said this in January and I'll say it again now. No one (let alone a Premier League team) is paying serious money for Dozzell on the basis of 963 (largely indifferent) minutes in the Championship. He'll be staying here until he's stood out in a substantial number of actual first team matches.

Bishop Out for Three Months, Nsiala and Lankester to Miss Start of Season
at 14:52:19

@BlueySwede I think every club's fans imagines they're especially unlucky with injuries, but picking up 5-10 new injuries during June/July isn't uncommon. For instance, from 2009 to 2014, Sunderland picked up on average 4 new injuries in June, 5 in July. Stoke, also 4/5 in the same period, Aston Villa 8 in June, 8 in July. Having 3 drop in July isn't that weird, even if we've likely got a smaller squad than those 3 did.

Bishop Scan Today
at 09:26:49

Every time a player gets an injury why do we get this raft of daft comments?
"Sell him! Time to cut our losses! Get rid! Send him to Colchester!"
How do they propose the club offload injured players who are under contract? Ask the player really nicely to write off the obligations the club agreed to? Somehow persuade another club to take on their wages (pay us a fee even!) for the sheer joy of having them take up their physio's time?

Teddy will be here until his contract is up or until he's fit enough that someone else wants to pay him to play football. He's not got injured as a personal affront to you or because he's weak or lazy, but because none of us can control when bits of our body break down. Why not just show the lad a bit of support?

Lambert: Without Money It's a Different Project
at 13:29:51

Think PL is very wise to dampen expectations. The players and the supporters need to hear that it's going to be hard getting out of this division and prepare accordingly. No arrogantly assuming we're going to sweep everyone aside without fighting for it, no getting on the players backs every time things aren't going exactly to plan.

Personally, I think we've got enough with the players already at the club to be at the top end of the division and if we don't... then even gambling on paying out a handful of modest fees isn't going to change that. Even if we spent all the Mings money on transfer fees, that'd be what? Two more players in the Nolan/Nsiala/Harrison/Donacien/Edwards/Jackson price range? What the hell is that supposed to achieve?
