A fantastic performance from the boys, what a good way to end our away campaign. Well done Bryan Klug, finally a manager realises the potential of our youngsters and gives them a start. Having 7 U23s in their was really pleasing and that is what should be happening at this point of the season, with nothing left to play for. First half was decent, football was good but we failed to really capitalise on our possession and get many good chances. Saying that, I thought Carayol had a terrific first half, his ambition and confidence on the ball are really encouraging and I thought that he would be the catalyst of any good move. 45-60 was a big drop, and we sat back and let them come at us, with a fantastic Bialkowski save from close range all that stood in the way of Reading going 1-0 up. After that short spell, I think we were brilliant, and although I was initially infuriated that we'd brought Sears on for the injured Carayol, there was an uncharacteristic sign of self belief, and he was constantly do something when on the ball. I though Spence was brilliant down the right hand side, leaving Richards clueless, and he played a key part in the first 2 goals. From then we looked hungry for more, and it seemed inevitable that we'd score again. Despite an aspect of luck, I was really impressed with Sears' goal as he showed the tenacity to want to get involved and he earned his reward for his high pressing. The 4th was deep in added time, with everyone exhausted...other than Waghorn, who drove through the Reading defence, and Connolly, who followed his run and smashed home from 6 yards after an unselfish lay-off from the former.

Woolfenden showed composure, strength and most importantly commitment at CB, and if we are treated to performances like that again, he will maintain a spot in this Ipswich defence. Same goes for Nydam, who was one of the most creative and at times Folami, who I felt didn't offer much following his stunning 45 minute cameo a few weeks back. Webster also played well in defence in terms of distribution, whilst Knudsen and Kenlock both produced solid performances. Waghorn was running right to the last kick and he was rewarded when he set up the 4th, Connolly did well to support the defence, and Gleeson did his job after coming on - preventing them from scoring. An all round good show from Town. COYB!!!

Just want to add that referee was excellent, free flowing and just what you need for a derby.

Great atmosphere, good start and a decent first half performance. Knudsen's effort inside the first few mins that came out off the post stunned up the game really. Things didn't really do our way, were didn't get the luck we needed and it was overall a host of if onlys and maybes. Some of pure breezy players of late, Spence, Waghorn and McGoldrick to name a few, were disappointing. Waghorn had the work ethic but nothing was coming off for him, and some of his set pieces early on were dreadful. I think McGoldrick was trying to impress Martin O'Neill, the Irish manager, but will be bitterly disappointed with himself. Never got in the game and work rate was our in large areas. Would of subbed him off personally. Spence was a liability today, his positional play was woeful and Chambers articles to clean up, with Wildschut and Maddison burning him for pace. I was surprised with Nydam's inclusion but I thought he was superb, and him and Skuse really displayed the positive derby day mentality, feisty but controlled. Celina showed promise when coming on as sub late in the day. Second half was same old Ipswich, long balls galore. A few glorious chances, some headed sitters put wide, and although it wasn't the worst performance, I too am bitterly disappointed with the result. Our derby drought continues...

Shame the attendance wasn't a few thousand higher though, should be once the holiday season runs out.

My second Ipswich game of the season after the pre-season match at Colchester and it was a joy to watch. I think what Mick said sums us up; "a good, solid, disciplined, hard-working" display. Mick said at the start of the season he would try to get Town playing a more exciting brand of football and we certainly are at the moment. Despite our low possession stats, when we're had the ball we always looked dangerous, and when we lost the ball Sears and Waghorn were putting in a shift down the wings to help out.Normally, when the opposition are within 30 yards of our goal, I'm afraid we are going to concede yet yesterday was the best defensive display I've ever seen, even without Chambers and Webster, and so when they were putting balls in the box, I was confident we'd clear out. Myles Kenlock was especially good, with confidence flowering through him, but Knudsen, Iorfa and Spence were also impressive, with Knudsen and Spence both full backs who've moved into central positions. We lost a bit of shape when the youngsters came on but we're still buying on for a win. From a neutral point of view, it was quite an unnerving performance, but from aTown perspective, when we had the ball we were brilliant and they're could be better things to come after a great start to the season.
