Clegg: Wickham Integral Part of the Squad

Not sure what some of you are thinking. What is the point of a loan back? It just means ITFC are developing someone elses player and if he does get us promoted he goes back to his club even though we then would have had no need to sell him.

Also, if he goes at 19 when his contract expires we would get quite a bit from the tribunal if he has played well for 2 years.

harby1,

You think that Garvan showed controlled passing and intelligent movement?

I guess we really were watching a different match. If you think Leadbitter was hoofing I am not sure what you were watching.

I seriously think that the "homegrown-spectacles" were on for a lot of people saturday night.

As for your rather large "leap of logic" to the fact that I prefer long ball football then your wrong about that as well. Some people around here seem to make statements based on evidence which is uncorrelated.

It's most annoying.

It seems a few people after your post agree with me. You point regarding homegrown players being more committed is a broad sweeping generalisation with little basis in fact. Garvan was poor for the majority of the match and only your homegrown-specs stop you from seeing that. Please go and watch the game again. Leadbitter played a numbers of superb passes throughout the game and was certainly not afraid of expressing himself in the way you claim. In fact he often played a lovely pass only to see the receiving player make a hash of it. No idea where the eastern europe army team rant came from but it's neither funny or applicable.

It seems to me you have an agenda to push which is anti any of Keane's signings rather than actually looking at the match in hand.

No idea which match you were watching on saturday but it wasn't the same one as me. Leadbitter was excellent, he always had time on the ball, got stuck in and showed an excellent range of passing.

Garvan on the otherhand was poor although for some reason he did look better playing on the lefthand side. I bet your one of these posters who think that homegrown talent can do no wrong.

Chirpswich, thats all very well but you just need to ask yourself:

Would you prefer to be a "big fish" in a smaller pond or be setup for life at one of the big 4?

Lets face it, it's entirely possible he could get injured or go the way of some other great teenagers, why would he not take the money now?

I obviously don't want this scenario to happen and hope he stays and signs on his 17th birthday but someone needs to play devils advocate here and it also has to be pointed out that it's not really in Keanes hands. Thus the title and thrust of the blog is not really fair.

Bluemurder:

Your kidding right? Roy Keane is on par at attracting players as Wenger or Fergie? You must have your head in the clouds mate. Not only have they achieved more in the game in regards to developing players but both have the truely massive resources of Arsenal and Man Utd behind them.

The comparison is laughable and my original point stands (and is also made by the 2nd blog comment I might add).

"With the backing of Marcus Evans's millions you should be able to attract most players and certainly keep any 16-year-old!"

That statement is nonsense. If Man U or Chelsea offer 10k+ a week are we supposed to break the wage structure in order to hold on to Wickham? Whatever Evans offers the big clubs can offer more, surely you can see that? You are also not taking into account that it might not be a financial decision he makes and might decide his football education is better served under Wenger or Fergie.

Obviously I hope he stays but it's entirely Wickham's decision as he has no professional contract and your blog entirely misses that and focuses on Keane and the club.
