Here's my opinion, which I know you're all desperate to hear: 1/ I think that the fact that there's a fair geographical distance between the two actually adds to the rivalry. Norwich seem quite other-wordly to me. Like Ipswich, they're supported mostly by people in the direct locale, so i just don't see or meet Norwich fans that often. I found it really surreal going to Liverpool and seeing people walking around in Liverpool and Everton shirts; 2/ The local politics is also a big factor. Ipswich has always played second fiddle to Norwich in terms of prestige and stature - think of the cathedral, the BBC studios, the UEA (although I will vociferously defend Ipswich against its detractors. It's a much nicer place to live than everyone makes out). But the one area where were top dog, was of course football. Over the last decade, however, we've seen a shift in that relationship. It feels like Ipswich needs a successful football team a lot more than Norwich do... |

Jeez, I was sat next to the great man only yesterday in the BBC Radio Suffolk studio only yesterday. Sweet, funny, affable, absolutely loved this club. Stunned... |

Hi all - thanks for the comments. A few negative, a few cynical, a few simply weird, but mostly really positive. Thanks! Just thought i'd answer a few common things mentioned by you: 1/ I 100% agree that the away fans should be moved down the North, and this is something I bring up regularly with the club, but they won't budge on it. I guess we can only keep banging on about it - maybe start a petition? 2/ Again, 100% agree that bringing back standing areas would make all of this MUCH, MUCH easier. And it will happen if fans keep campaigning and petitioning the government. It's already been discussed in parliament and i'm confident that in the near future standing areas will be allowed at all levels of English football 3/ people have made mention about the quality of atmosphere is dependent on the quality if football. I get that to a degree - as someone who likes to jump around and make some noise at football, I certainly had the life sucked out of me many times over the last couple of years. But it's still a kop out, and that's still ultimately me making an excuse. We can't control what happens on the pitch, but we can control ourselves. Went to see Cologne last season, who got relegated in an abject season, and their ground was still jam packed and I could barely hear the blokes next to me their fans were making so much noise... |

| Blog Comment | Wanted: An Inexperienced New Manager at 18:23:53
Agree with this word for word! I would also question this received wisdom that an experienced manager is a safe option: Keane and Jewell nearly took us down and McCarthy took us to our lowest league position in 2 generations..! |
| News Comment | Ex-England Boss McClaren Linked With Town at 13:00:09
Pegasus - agree with you word for word. Excellent post. That said, I think McClaren has been very unfairly maligned over the years. I would never judge a manager by how he's done at Derby, Forest or Newcastle and their moronic owners who sack managers on a whim. Maybe this could be McClaren's chance to show the doubters..? |

PJewellisaGod - If Goteni was the big number 5 at the back then very well I thought. Have to confess to missing most of the goals, so not sure if he was at fault for any of them; but incredibly composed and confident on the ball. Looked really classy... |
| News Comment | McCarthy: No New Injuries Ahead of Sheffield Wednesday Trip at 15:47:36
BobbyBell - I agree. I think about growing up playing football in this country and how the cardinal sin was always being caught in possession or giving the ball away. As a result, I grew to be so terrified of the football that I always looked to offload it the second I got it. We live in more enlightened times now, but i'm worried that McCarthy still holds onto this archaic belief that getting caught in possession is the absolute evil (i'm willing, however to give him the benefit of the doubt seen as our key 'ball' players have been crocked all season) ricardo55555 - definitely mate, that's a top 6 side..! |
| News Comment | McCarthy: 200-Up Skuse a Valuable Asset at 15:37:41
I'm not going to sit here and say Skuse is the best thing since sliced bread - he is very limited in what he offers - but i'd sure as hell rather have him than not. I also happen to think he's having his best season in an Ipswich shirt. Also nice having a fit, strong, durable midfielder who doesn't appear to be made out of cocktail sticks... |
| Blog Comment | This Might Rub You Up the Wrong Way, it Might Not! at 20:02:23
Firstly, your name and profile pic is the best i've ever seen on this website, and expect to ever see... Sadly, your viewpoint is one i'm gradually starting to share. The club is being hollowed out and I have a horrible, horrible feeling that it's going to get worse before it gets better. That said, I am one of the diehards and we could drop to the bloody Ryman Premier and i'd still be turning up. I have a firm belief that the more suffering I put myself through now, the sweeter it will be when the good times return. I watched Sunday's game wearing a pair of horsehair underpants, for example... If you want a rainbow, you have to put up with the rain. D'you know what 'philosopher' said that? Dolly Parton. And people say she's just a big pair of t*ts... |
