Ipswich Town 6-0 Doncaster Rovers - Match Report
at 21:50:13

Well, that was a tonic! This was men against boys, and the men really made the point. A classy Town team took a poor Doncaster side apart with some incisive running, intelligent passing and slick interchanges. All of the goals were really well taken. If I have a very slight quibble it is that Town had plenty of corners (nine?) and a couple of advanced free kicks, but made little of any of them — need a bit of work on dead ball situations. But really good to watch — and it's done our goal difference a world of good. Now let's keep it up!

Ipswich Town 1-2 West Ham U21s - Match Report
at 21:49:43

That was dire. We seemed to have no real cohesion, no plan, just 'go onto the pitch and work it out for yourself'. Almost all were poor, the few bright spots were Morsy, Wolfenden and Armin were creditable at the centre of defence, Norwood led the line well, and Jackson did OK till he went off injured. As for the rest, almost to a man they were dreadful. A new low. I dread to think what Lincoln will do to us.

Sadly I don't think Hladky is an upgrade on Holy. I'd bring Holy back for next game, if only to send a message to Hladky. Time for the manager to admit that's one of his new men who isn't that great after all.

Excellent and well balanced article, thanks for sharing this with us. Cautious optimism is certainly the right mood for now!

In amongst all this excitement, isn't there a football match happening soon?

Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 18:12:38

What can we learn from these training games? Based on today's showing there's a few conclusions to be drawn.

1. Cornell looked like a League 2 goalie, on this showing I'd put Wright ahead of him for our number two.

2. Good to have KVY back, looks like a good partnership developing with Dobra, who also looked strong.

3. Sadly Chambers doesn't look the player he used to be. Woolfenden gets better and better, and Ndaba might share Nsiala for his partner.

4. Ward disappointed, but Kenlock didn't size the opportunity.

5. In midfield, Skuse looked experienced but limited, Downes looked classy, Dozzell looked ok but failed to impose himself, Bishop was anonymous, Nolan and Judge were chasing shadows. McGavin looked ok but wasn't on the field long, and we didn't get to see El Mizouni at all.

6. Up front, Drinan looked ok but Jackson looked better. The best of the wide men were clearly Dobra and Edwards.

Overall summary? We showed nice movement and control, our first eleven should be real contenders in this league.

We Should Encourage the Club and the League to Stream All Games
at 10:43:06

A supporter of ITFC for more than 60 years, I live some distance from Ipswich, and find travelling harder as I get older, so I'd love to see live streaming video of matches. I'd cheerfully pay seat prices to be able to follow Ipswich live. So irrespective of limited crowds, put this in place for distant life long supporters who want to see their team!

From the video, seems a good shot stopper. Anyone know how he is at distribution, or with the ball at his feet after a back pass?

All Seven Out-of-Contract Senior Players Released
at 13:53:45

These are of course only the out of contract players whose registration is being released. I am sure there are discussions and expectations about transferring (perhaps on a free) other members of the squad who are also surplus to Lambert's requirements. I think we all have our suspicions as to who these might be - Cotter and Drinan spring to mind, to name but two.
As for Ward, I wouldn't rule out him being offered a new deal if and when he proves his fitness and looks ready and up for it. But sensible not to rush into it when his future fitness still in question (and it gets him off the payroll).

Chambers a Doubt as Illness Hits Blues

We can actually play Pennington where he should be - in central defence! I think he's our best centre half, so no surprise he's been playing right back.

Nsiala: It's Just Not Going Our Way But It's Going to Turn Around
at 11:12:47

Nsiala is hardly likely to say anything else, is he?

From what I've seen on videos (sadly I can't get to many games) I'm unconvinced that those brought in are better than our players coming through. I think the likes of Kenlock, Emmanuel, Downes, Dozzell, Morris, Nydam will do better gaining experience at Championship level than in lower leagues. Did Woolfenden do so badly when in the team? After all we couldn't be any lower with the youngsters in the team.

Jackson Arrives at Town as Blues Close in on Ninth Signing
at 15:28:42

Any stats hounds out there know our previous highest number of summer signings? Feels to me that we must have blown that record!

BTW to add to the date about the ability of lower league signings to make the grade, Jamie Vardy made a decent fist of that...

Three Changes as Blues End Season Against Boro
at 12:26:27

Disappointed that emerging players not getting a game - it's almost certainly Carter-Vickers' last game for Town, no promo/relegation issues at stake, why not give Woolfenden more game time? Similarly Spencer and Cotter - Spencer may be first choice, but Cotter needs experience and what better time to give it to him?

U23s Host Cardiff
at 14:36:01

This is the real downside of MM having the rest of the season in charge. Now, with nothing to play for, is the time to give youngsters first team experience and let them learn, with no pressure to gain every last point. Unfortunately MM has nothing to gain by developing next year's squad, and is only interested in maximising points and personal kudos.
