For astronomy fans - Betelgeuse

Well perhaps not 'mass hysteria' but I think you'd get the Nibiru/Planet X nutters rearing their heads and various other species of nonsense spreading through social media. Hopefully extinguished fairly quickly but you know what the modern world is like for buying misinformation over experts/science.

Interesting thread. I've known for some time about the pending question over when Betelgeuse will go nova (or, I should say, when we will see it) but wasn't actually aware of the recent dimming.

Intriguing video I remember watching some time ago which is a simulation of what the Betelgeuse supernova would look like from Earth:

My dad's an astronomy buff and from what he's told me, we'd be able to see the light of the supernova during the day, while at night it would outshine the moon for weeks or even months. Bit of a mixed blessing for stargazers - a fascinating sight, but it'll obliterate the light from fainter stars and objects!

I can't help imagining how society would react if they saw this happen though. Mass hysteria in ignorance of what was going on.

Same as the first reply - unless you're browsing sites that might cause issues, you probably don't need a paid security package. I ditched McAfee about 8 years ago having had endless issues with it and it ultimately failing to deal with a trojan that got onto my system. Haven't paid for a package since.

I'm currently using Avira Free Antivirus but I wouldn't particularly recommend it as it's pretty intrusive (frequently popping up with adverts for the paid product and sometimes failing to open properly). I've used AVG Free before although it used to throw up a few false positives. I've always heard good things about Avast, which is probably what I'll move onto once I've got tired of Avira's nonsense.

TWTD Runners
at 22:23 1 Jul 2019

Morning for me where possible. If I'm only doing a short one I can get up and out on an empty stomach, but I tend to do longer runs at the weekend so make sure I have a reasonable breakfast and then go out at least a couple of hours later. Ideally, I like to go out, do it and then get on with the rest of my day in the satisfaction of knowing I've got it off to an active start.

I've done plenty of late runs - especially at this time of year where there are some days when the temperature feels too high until the sun goes down - but then I find my whole evening kinda feels like I have to gee myself up to go out, and it kinda makes things more complicated in terms of planning dinner early enough to fit the run in afterwards. Plus in my experience, I don't put in good times in the evenings - most of my PBs have come early in the day.

The 2011/12 season was utterly bizarre

"We were either very very good or very very bad."

Kinda like if Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was a season.

This is precisely why I wish we sang Edward Ebeneezer more often. I know it's old-fashioned, I know it's not particularly adaptable. But it is ours.

Those who were there

I think Lambert's just keeping the positivity going with the 'brilliant' comment. The truth is, the last game I went to was West Brom, and I genuinely think we played better there. But Bolton were really underwhelming and, in a real rarity, we found two proper quality finishes to get the win in the bag. I must admit conceding the goal at the death made me feel surprisingly flat, because they'd done so little to threaten us that I felt we really deserved a more comfortable scoreline.

The win was the important thing though. They've reminded themselves that they can get a lead over the line and, with the recent overall improvement coupled with the utter lack of anything to lose now, it's not unthinkable we can build some genuine momentum to take into the summer and next season.

Town related article ideas

I suspect you'd have to go through the Town Press Office to get hold of anybody within the club these days. Probably Steve Pearce or even Grant Pringle these days - Grant is actually listed as the Press Office contact on the Town site: https://www.itfc.co.uk/contact-us/

Former players like Terry Butcher are a good shout though, as there would probably be fewer formalities to go through.

I'd heard it was because Donacien was feeling ill, rather than a tactical issue with him playing at LB.

I was just alluding to what was being said earlier in the thread about making too much change to the backline. It's not perfect but this would ultimately be a consistent selection with what we had for the win at Swansea.

Given this would be the same back four we started with at Swansea, I don't think this would be too much of a problem.

To be honest, my concern is less with who we have at left-back and more with having Pennington at right-back - he didn't have a good day at Swansea in that position tbh.

Oh he will do it. But only if he can be interviewed by Steve Pearce and have a few months to prepare his opinion.

I think we could get a piece done by 30 March next year.

Away Day Etiquette...
at 23:41 13 Oct 2018

In my experience, if the game isn't in East Anglia or London, and as long as it's not some massive season-defining affair, the chances are it'll be unreserved on the day. Just check quickly with the first steward you see in the stand.

I've never encountered stewards making people sit where their ticket says. If you get some daft scenario where eight people are stood in front of four seats, then yes, they'll try and move people.

'Standers to the back, sitters to the front' usually works but doesn't necessarily apply - some games it'll just be everyone standing regardless.

Funnily enough I seem to recall first encountering ASMR via a past thread on TWTD.

I do actually find listening to such videos quite relaxing and occasionally use them to help me get to sleep. Must admit though, some of them are so odd it's rather distracting!!

Getting a job at past 50 is no joke
at 17:20 9 Oct 2018

I'm not sure getting a job at any age is easy nowadays. I'm in my early 30s and been out of work for a while. We all know the issues teens and 20-year-olds are having, while my dad is still working in his 70s and finding the contracts drying up.

Not much encouragement but at least you can take solace that you're by no means a special case when it comes to the difficulty of finding work!

Were we actually shown at all on the EFL show tonight on Quest?
at 23:56 6 Oct 2018

Think they showed us and Preston first two matches, as if they appreciated we were the two most starved of seeing a win on the highlights!

Laughed during the League One highlights at how Colin Murray said something like 'welcome back to Ipswich and Plymouth fans, they've all been saying they haven't been watching our highlights until today'. And with good reason!

Poor defending for Celina goal
at 23:52 6 Oct 2018

If the Sky highlights were the same as the Quest highlights, they both failed to show how we were actually battling hard in the Swansea box to try and get a third when that move started. I wasn't too convinced with how we dealt with it in our half, but the fact it even got over the halfway line was both the product of unlucky fine margins and an absurdly good break by Swansea.

Terry Connor had a 0% win percentage during his official managerial reign at Wolves. That was in 13 games.
