A managers job with regard to match day selection and tactics is to refine the quality, spot the gaps and act accordingly. Getting the selection right with improvement game by game, takes time to get right and for me, that's exactly what PC has done, especially bringing Morsy in once he realised that Harper wasn't up to the job, which he openly admitted. |

@PortmanTerrorist seriously, you thought El Mizouni was ‘outstanding', in what way? He made two good tackles but apart from that went missing for the entire game, completely overshadowed by Carroll who's orange boots were constantly on the ball.
Next time he plays, watch him off the ball, he's late to every second ball, doesn't track and has no sense of creativity. Our worst CM by a country mile. I would rather play Nolan, and that's saying something!

It's funny, I read some of the comments on here, and the Facebook forum, and think people looking in from outside think they're watching a video game or reality TV show, and I'm sure a huge percentage have never kicked a football in a competitive match of any quality.
People shouting for PC to go should ask themselves whether they're true supporters of this club. We've just been bought by a huge US based pension fund, have a CEO who has literally worked magic in the transfer market during the summer, and 19 new players, who, as a collective first choice selection have not actually played together before, signing the last two and arguably the most important, two weeks ago.
Paul Cook is more qualified that literally every person commenting on this forum. Do you think he watches matches and thinks ‘mmm, not sure what to do next' or is that something that so-called fans like to think because comments like ‘PC out' give them attention.
We're six games in, have a brand new team and a bloody good manager analysing performances to make improvements. Get behind the team and manager, be that twelfth man and help get us out this division, stop the bloody negativity and moaning!! |

Wickwar, please don't take offence to this, there's no other way to ask and I'm conscious that you represent many others feeling the same way, but have you played football yourself?
At any level, if a brand new team comes together it's impossible to know how players will act when with or without the ball, despite obvious communication. Decisions are made in a split second and your succeed or fail on the ability of the team mates around you reading your next move. When PC says we need time to gel, this is what he means. The quality of the players signed have given the ability to score goals, something we were terrible at last season, it defensively we're not there yet.
My only criticism of PC is his lack of investment in a strong leader at the back, everything else has been amazing in terms of new recruits |

I'm good friends with Robbie Cowling, the owner and Chairman of Colchester. He's passionate about gaining success at Colchester and funds the club to the tune of circa £3m every year.
Sadly, money doesn't always buy success, despite his efforts, but I think these signings are very shrewd, especially with Judge. The fact that all these players have Championship experience and will be in and around several promising youngsters, suggests that they could well have a successful campaign next season.
I also suspect that Chambo and Skuse are on lower salary contracts on the basis that they were out of contract, 35 years old and happy to be offered roles 15 minutes from home, keeping families settled in the area. Judge would probably have been more expensive but in my opinion, would have been worth it, he's much better than League 2. |

BettyBlue, I know he's young but he's played 94/96 games in both League 1 and Championship, how much more experience does he need? PC might be a coach but if he's got the resources to buy fundamentally better players, why wouldn't he?
It's already been made clear that the 3 Lions don't have patience, so let's spend some money, get some decent, young, vocal and physical players in, and build for next year. Downes has had his chance! |

I think our expectation are so low now that losing Downes seems a catastrophe. In my opinion, he is an ok defensive midfielder, but that's it. He doesn't score goals, control games or rally the troops. If the players proposed to be coming in do happen, he will be quickly forgotten. |

I had the pleasure of meeting Sally Webb on a few occasions and she had told me that Charlie Austin had the paperwork in front of him to sign, a deal having been agreed. At the very last minute Simon Clegg decided he could get a better deal and asked Austin and his team to return in 24 hours to finalise the deal. The next morning he signed for QPR.
Needless to say, she wasn't Cleggs biggest fan! |

Firstly, can I say how lucky the players have been that there were no fans in the stadium this season.
On performances, I just think that the quality isn't there, literally, not enough of the first team squad are good enough. That's not blaming them for underperforming or lack of effort, just that they're not of the standard required to compete on this league. The only way to deal with that is to move them on and replace them with players proven at this level and above, on the basis that the budget is there.
I personally have no doubts about PC's managerial ability. |
