I watched Woods, Whymark and Johnson, and remember Burley's debut ... and a fabulous 0-0 draw with Burnley at PR. Anyway, I have to disagree with you heathen66 on RK compared to MM. The last 106 games for MM don't compare particularly favourably - 97% of RK's points won at Home, but 10% more goals For (Home, HgF) per game versus 98% HgA; Away, points are 6% better than Keano's, but goals ... AgF 84%, AgA 94%. Similar, on these broad statistics. BUT, overall the figures are much more favourable MM to RK: Hpt/gm 111%, HgF 125%, HgA 98% Apt/gm 96%, AgF 86%, AgA 95%. MM is improving Away, too. |

Yeah, sorry, carsey. pt/gm means points per game gF/gm means goals For per game and so on. So MM got an average of 1.929 (nearly two) points per game at Home in his first three seasons; 1.528 (just over 1.5) pt/gm at home last two seasons plus this (not including today's result). And so on. His Away progress has been 1.1 then 1.2 pt/gm. This season it has been 1.3 points per game Away (but only a small number of games). :-) |

@Daley - what are you saying ?! "comparisons are totally invalid, though there are similarities ..." Hang on ... Anyway, you're basically right, that comparing managers to MM from the sixties, eighties, and probably also the early nineties is of limited utility. But I hope it does put a bit of perspective on how things are at the moment. The bulk of the blog compares Mick to Mick. But those of us who remember - Ferguson resigned, Lyall was sacked; and BMcG was before my time. Next comparison: at the end of NEXT season; or else when MM reaches GB's total games in charge ! |

Thanks for the comprehensive and entertaining report - "Benny" looks an interesting prospect. Hope he continues to progress, and hopefully get good enough for ITFC first XI :-) |
| Blog Comment | Comparing Mick to Mick and to Joe Royle at 23:48:49
@Big_Steve "Why the focus on the comparison between Big Fat Joe and MickM Why just BFJ? Why not include SuperJim, MadRoy and FoolJewell into the mix? What would that tell us? Does it actually matter?" I previously compared MM to PJ and RK when MM reached their total games in charge. I missed out a comparison with JimM (and ScottDuncan) - it didn't seem to tell us anything new at that time. Now MM (180 games in charge) has neared JoeRoyle's total (184 final total), hence time for a comparison. And it IS comparing apples with apples, in many ways - Big Joe didn't get us up; neither has Mick M ... yet. Similar times (2002-2006), not ancient history (before the Premiership, say). What do the analyses tell us ? Probably what we already feel - see the blogs, anyway. Does it actually matter ? Erm. Not compared to many important things, maybe not :-) As for your suggestion about a correlation between bums on seats and league position / playing style factored in, maybe that's do-able. Not this week, sorry - remind me in the close season, and I'll see what I c'n do fer ya :-D |

Oh, and if we spent 94 grand more, we'd still be less than Huddersfield, next place above us this year (AND less than Watford last year) :-) |

Watford last year: £355,750 ITFC last year: £360,619 It's goals that wins games ... |

Which game did you watch, ivegottheblues ? First half even, with a lucky-ish penalty decision; second, we were the better team - much more creative, and more flair. |

The statement "some Polish bloke for £8,000" will bite YOU in the bum, gino88 :-) Malarczyk and Knudsen will be very prudent signings, you wait and see. Both have very good pedigrees, and will adapt and benefit from TC / MM 's training. No Balint Bajner there - Brus the pair ! I would say BOTH are high profile signings, just not from this country's perspective :-P |
| News Comment | Birmingham Game on Sky at 08:02:45
"Season ticket is cheaper than skysports for a year " - not if you factor in the cost of changing channels versus the cost of getting to the game in terms of time and money ... And the price of two or three pints down the local per televised Sky game is even cheaper. |
