Interesting analysis of number of deaths projected
at 07:19 21 Mar 2020

Seems to suggest that some of the figures being quoted are inadvertently inflated. In Italy a lot of the deaths early on were people already in hospital and we don't know how many of them would have succumbed anyway.

Perspective
at 09:44 4 Mar 2020

Not the good kind I'm afraid, not going to make us feel better. Just a couple of things that put into perspective how badly we've cocked this season up.

The first thing to note is that back in the autumn we comfortably beat Fleetwood at their place, where they have been much stronger this season than they have been away. It was 1-0 but we bossed it and with a half capable ref we'd have won by more. Last night they totally outplayed us. They have progressed, developed their shape and system over the season, and got more cohesive. What have we done since then? That's the bit that's hard to take. We gave ourselves a great platform to build from, but whilst most other sides have got better over the season we have gone backwards. That has to be on the manager, who spent months picking the team and system out of a hat and passing it off as a masterplan that would make us better in the run in. How's that working out for us?

Secondly, to get to 75 points now - and I think it'll probably take that to get into the play offs this season - we need to win 7 and draw 2 in our last 9 games. That's 100 points over the season kind of form. And we need that to have a slim chance of nicking 6th having been clear at the top in the autumn and having briefly been top again in January. By contrast, Fleetwood can now win 6 and lose 5 in their final 11 games and get to 76 points, which would pip us even if we went on a miracle run.

I'm genuinely staggered at how spectacularly we've managed to implode this season. It feels so self inflicted as well.

Lambert out.

Genuine Lambingo line up. That first half was new depths of bad, we didn't even muster a shot. Second half we looked like a non league side trying to lay a glove on a Prem team. All against Fleetwood and their 88 fans. My word. I hope this is us bottoming out.

My word, this league really is toss. It's utterly embarrassing that we don't look remotely capable of getting out of it.

"The away form has been really, really good"
at 15:46 28 Feb 2020

Are you sure about that, Paul?

I make it one win in in ten league games and that was against virtually relegated Tranmere via a late winner.

There seems to be utter delusion at the club at the moment about what's been happening on the pitch these past 3-4 months.

The season is over, right?
at 14:28 25 Feb 2020

Or is it just me feeling that way? We have zero momentum and whatever length of time up to about 25 games that you choose to take our form over we simply aren't in top 6 form. I'm not seeing any evidence that's likely to change, especially with Jackson and Norwood both out for three big games.

We've left it too late to replace Lambert, it's been clear for quite a while now that he's a busted flush, but after giving him a new contract we couldn't very well bin him off straight away and I don't think anyone would be able to turn things round quickly enough to get us up now with relatively few games remaining.

All pretty depressing but this season feels much like last in terms of just waiting for our fate to be confirmed and seeing what transpires in the summer. Lambert has really cocked this season up despite having so much stacked in his favour. I just hope he's gone promptly so a new man has time to get his ducks in a row before preseason.

Three quarters of the season gone
at 17:13 22 Feb 2020

First 11 games we picked up 27 points.

Next 11 games we picked up just 10 points.

Last 11 games we managed 15 points.

Without that flying start we'd be lower midtable, we've managed fewer points in half a season than we picked up in that first quarter of the season. Lambert has royally cocked this up. That run from November to the new year was shocking, essentially relegation form, and it was in large part down to him constantly making too many changes to the line up and system. It's still affecting us now as we've basically only had a settled side and line up for the last 11 games and we're playing sides who have had a settled side and system all season.

Burton game - turning point or blip?
at 08:10 20 Feb 2020

Now the dust has settled after the weekend, just wondering what people's thoughts are? I've seen a few people suggest that it was or could be a turning point that sees us push on for the rest of the season. I am a bit skeptical of that for a few reasons.

Firstly, we similarly beat a poor Accrington side earlier in the year and our form continued to be patchy thereafter. Secondly, Burton came and played quite open which gave us a lot of space to hurt them. Not many sides will do that. Thirdly, Burton were weakened at the back and on a poor run. We know we've got enough quality to roll over the poorer sides in the division, that's not our issue.

On the other hand, we did look more balanced as a side overall. Earl gives us better balance in the back three for sure and Garbutt and Edwards give us much better width than their replacements. Judge played with more positional discipline than he has in a while which meant he got beyond the strikers and added a threat high up the pitch. Jackson and Keane actually looked capable of playing together, which they haven't done all that often when I've seen them, and linked up nicely at times. In their own different ways, they were unplayable.

For me it's very much a case of wait and see. It was a very good performance and I hope something has genuinely clicked. That said, there are some big caveats against the win as well. This weekend's game is massive. Oxford have themselves had a sticky run, albeit they won handsomely midweek, but they're a decent side and exactly the sort of team we've not done well enough against this season. Win this one and win it fairly well and it gives us a good platform for the run in. Anything else and it increasingly looks like a tough struggle to guarantee a play off slot.

How toxic will it get...

Since mid October....
at 09:46 12 Feb 2020

...... our form has been shocking. Rewind to before the Accrington game and we were on 27 points from 11 games, 4 points clear of 2nd and 6 points clear of 3rd with one or two games in hand on most.

Over the following 20 games we've picked up just 22 points. That's the kind of form that sees you just avoiding relegation. Over essentially half a season. And sides now have games in hand over us.

Our start was so good that even if we'd managed 1.5 points a game over that period, which is usually top half but not play off form, we'd still be top right now.

Lambert has cocked this right up.

Embarrassing
at 16:54 1 Feb 2020

Not really much more to say than that. Any time a half decent League 1 side faces us we roll over and give them the game. Lambert doesn't have a clue as far as I can see. Norris over Holy? Good one. Lumping it to nobody every time we have kick off? Cracking stuff. We're a total shambles. The only reason we're not lower midtable is that we have a squad with much more ability than most at this level.

Huge police presence at the station and on the way down to PR. Seems wildly disproportionate, I don't think us or Peterborough see ourselves as having a major rivalry?

Needs to come off. Couple of times he's had the ball in good areas and just smacked it aimlessly to nobody. Not the game for him, need someone who can break the line or stand up to them physically or ideally a bit of both.

Wrote off someone's car today

At work on my company motorcycle and some eejit had parked his car jutting out into the road. Ploughed into it and damaged it pretty badly, chassis all bent up. I felt a bit bad as I rode off but the boss is in trouble financially and didn't renew the insurance. Think I got away with it mind.
