Excellent analysis. We are operating within a financial plan agreed between owners & club management. This year's accounts will be fascinating. Presumably non-playing staff costs will increase but not by much. Player wages will be higher as planned (much, much higher if we go up again, as there must be huge promotion bonuses payable - was that also an element if our relative high wages last season?). But commercial revenues will be way up, tv/ media maybe 10m up... |

Pretty sure Fulham's cost was high because of a few factors we don't have: 1 Building right back to the river - space and engineering issues 2 Central London costs incl / esp wages Ashton has said repeatedly ours will be a single-tier, to maximise space beneath. That promises decent concourses, but also big dining space. There are a number of clubs who have nice squarish rooms that seat 300 - 500 for dinner (examples, Plymouth, Crewe, Bristol City). If we did this, we'd pick up a lot of local big-dinner trade non-matchdays. There would still be room for private dining facilities, either with or without pitch view (I can't think of any modern single tier stands with exec boxes, but can imagine it could be done with outside seating). I'd love there to be a decent restaurant open 7 days a week, like maybe the MPW at Stadium MK. It'll be interesting to see what ITFC might do with the joins to N and S stands. I imagine there may be an attempt to align then at roof level, but there is potentially a massive gap between E and S stands (perfect space for a brewery, like at Spurs...). It would be ideal to shift the pitch maybe 2m east, as currently most seats in West Upper can't see the touchline. Also, widen the pitch a wee bit. I am not convinced we would move boardroom / directors box across. Logistically it makes little sense. There are very few west-facing directors boxes (thinks, Shrewsbury & Fleetwood), as you get blinded by the sun or soaked by the rain. |

I'm not sure the kind of people offended by the continuation of the tradition of recolourising / redesigning the St George's flag would take all that well to a German taking charge. Worth it for the bantz, surely? |

The existing owners have not sold 40% of the club. A new investor has put new funds in alongside the existing owners. The existing owner retains control of the club. |

I had to turn the radio off. I now wish they'd gone the whole way and made it rainbow colours. |

You should find a space in the Portman Road car park, as it isn't a huge crowd, but if not then you'll be a bit tight on getting in as turnstiles close after 45 mins. |

Increase in child benefit, reduction in taxes for workers, increase in taxes for wealthy pensioners, non-dom status to be axed - it was a Labour budget... |

Pensioners do pay tax on their pensions. From this year, the vast majority of pensioners will be paying income tax, even those largely dependent on the pitifully low state pension. |

Last time we went up, I confidently and loudly predicted that Venus would move on and down in the summer, due to his utter lack of pace. Come July, he appeared in an athlete's body, sharp as a knife, and played like Beckenbauer for a season. |

Merging NI & income tax would need careful planning. You could take the simple route, and just combine the existing regimes, calling it income tax, but that would increase the tax rate on most pensioners from 20% to 29(?)%, which would be pretty severe. There are additional complexities from NI being charged differently according to employment status, etc. I agree, reform is needed (though the mess that is Council Tax is even more important). In a sense it is already happening, as the reduction in NI (benefitting workers) is more than offset by a freezing in income tax bands (costing workers + most pensioners) . |
