May the 2nd 1981 and Boro ruined my childhood dreams in our title run. Aged 11 and my Dad said maybe next year...
We must grasp promotion this season, opportunities missed don't necessarily come around the following season.

House move has meant one last glance through the programme collection mainly from the 1980s and early 1990s and a reread of books on the glory years, but the time has come to say goodbye to them.

All those of you putting 100 goals and 100 points as more important than the title.
The players and management will receive medals to treasure for life. They will either say winner or runner up. How many times have you read that runners up medals get slung in the back of a drawer?
There will be no mention of points or goals. |

Who was there at Barnsley in March 1996?
Town were 3-0 down with just five minutes remaining, and somehow salvaged a 3-3 draw...
LIKE middle-distance runners barging each other for position as they approach to the bell, the Endsleigh First Division sides in or near the play-off places spent much of yesterday agitatedly jockeying for position. Barnsley betrayed their nerves with a remarkable display of stupidity.
Three-nil ahead with five minutes left of their home game against promotion rivals Ipswich, thoughts were turning to tea and crumpets. Then the Yorkshire side's goalkeeper, Dave Watson, tried to beat Ian Marshall, failed, and gave away a needless goal.
Three minutes later, Marshall raced on to Simon Milton's pass to make it 3-2. Thoroughly panicked, Barnsley watched as Alex Mathie crossed and Milton headed a last minute equaliser. |

Morecambe, Burton Albion & now Cheltenham Town. Never thought there would be a day when we were in the same league as them, and not be able to beat any of them. How has it come to this?
