Bent Windfall for Town?
Bent Windfall for Town?
Sunday, 28th Aug 2005 20:10

Former Blue Darren Bent has been included in the England squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Northern Ireland next week. Should the striker play in either game, Town will receive further cash on top of the initial £2.5 million fee agreed with Charlton when the 21-year-old moved to the Valley in June.

After Bent was called up for the recent friendly against Denmark, it emerged that Town's much-vaunted international caps clause only counted for competitive matches. Bent, perhaps fortunately, failed to make it off the bench in Copenhagen.

Town will be due cash on each of Bent's competitive England appearances up to an undisclosed number. The Cambridge-born striker continued his good start to his Charlton career, netting his fourth goal of the season in the Addicks' 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough this afternoon.

England face Wales in the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, September 3rd and Northern Ireland at Windsor Park on Wednesday, September 7th.

Bent could face former team-mate Lewis Price in the Wales game. The keeper has been included in John Toshack's squad, although Danny Coyne is considered their first-choice stopper.

Town's other call-up for next week is Jaime Peters who will win his 12th full cap if he plays for Canada in Santander on Saturday, September 3rd.

England: Robinson (Tottenham), Green (Norwich), Kirkland (Liverpool), Young (Charlton), Warnock (Liverpool), P Neville (Everton), A Cole (Arsenal), Carragher(Liverpool), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Terry (Chelsea), Upson (Birmingham), Beckham (Real Madrid), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), J Cole (Chelsea), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Jenas (Newcastle), Carrick (Tottenham), Richardson (Man Utd), Owen (Real Madrid), Rooney (Man Utd), Defoe (Tottenham), A Johnson (Crystal Palace), Bent (Charlton).
