Derby Deny George Probe Tuesday, 24th May 2005 15:47 Derby County have denied launching an investigation into the conduct of boss George Burley. Newspaper reports this morning claimed the club were looking into the former Town manager's conduct. However, a club statement says there is no truth in the allegation: "We are not conducting an investigation into George Burley. "The entire board is pleased with the progress the club has made over the past 12 months." Burley strongly denies any wrongdoing and has said he is considering his position, admitting that he has been unhappy with a number of aspects of life at Pride Park. The former Scotland international is understood to have been unimpressed at the board's appointment of former agent Murdo Mackay as director of football last summer. Rumours last month suggested that Mackay was running the club, something denied by chairman John Sleightholme. The chairman also refuted reports claiming the club's debt stands at £40 million.
