Benefit Match for Owen
Benefit Match for Owen
Thursday, 27th Jan 2005 10:42

The Blues and Colchester United have agreed to play a benefit match for former Town youth coach Brian Owen during 2005/06 pre-season. Owen, who was at Portman Road in the Bobby Robson era, is a former U's physio and is currently a coach at Layer Road.

Colchester chief executive Marie Partner says the game is in recognition of Owen's long service: "Brian has been a dedicated and hardworking member of the club staff for many years now and Colchester United like to reward this kind of loyalty.

"He has proven to be a valuable person to have around over the years and this match is a fitting tribute to his work to date. We hope that supporters of the two teams will turn out in force to give the game the backing it deserves."

No date has yet been set but both clubs are committed to playing the game. Owen has also worked for Wolves, Luton and England in a career which spans forty years.
