Town boss Joe Royle will ring the changes when the Blues make the trip to Doncaster Rovers for a second round Carling Cup tie on Tuesday (KO 7.45pm). Matt Richards, Tony Dinning and Dean Bowditch will all start Town's first game at Belle Vue since 1958.

Richards will come in at left-back for his first game since his foot injury, while Dinning and Bowditch make their first starts since the Brentford game in the same competition.

The Town boss, who has no new injury worries after the West Ham game, may also call on reserve keeper Lewis Price who played in the last round while there could also be a sub run-out for Scott Mitchell.

Left-back or midfielder Scott Barron, who made his senior debut in the match against the Bees, is unlikely to be involved due to a niggling groin injury.

Royle says he has had representatives at recent Doncaster matches: "We've had them watched twice and they are a team on a run - indeed, they are on a real high after what they have been through in the last two of three years.

"They have one of my old players from Manchester City, Nicky Fenton, and he will be keen to do well. I also know their chairman, John Ryan, and had lunch with him not so long ago.

"They are a progressive club and I am very pleased for them. Manager Dave Penney has worked wonders up there to bring them out of non-league football and I am delighted with their rise."

Doncaster's main threat is likely to come from striker Michael McIndoe, who like Town's Tommy Miller was called into a Scotland Future squad last season. Other highly-rated players include midfielder Paul Green and keeper Andy Warrington.

Dave Penney has taken Rovers from the Conference into League One where they are currently ninth. He says he is expecting a difficult game: "Obviously it's going to be hard against a team like Ipswich who are trying to get back into the Premier League and have started the season really well.

"If they play like Sunderland did against us pre-season we will really have our work cut out. But the cup is a one off and anything can happen. We will be out to give a good account of ourselves and see what happens."

Tuesday's referee is Lee Mason from Lancashire who has shown 18 yellow cards and no red in six games this season.

He last took control of a Town game in April when the Blues defeated Sunderland 1-0 at Portman Road.
