On trial keeper Javier Sanchez Broto says he is determined to stay and win himself a contract at Portman Road. The Spanish stopper had previously been quoted as saying he wanted a return to former club Celtic.

Broto was with the Scottish giants for only a few months, his contract ending in June. He turned down an new offer said to have been worth £8,000-a-week, the Glasgow club surprisingly offering him a second deal.

Quotes published today (although possibly a week or so old) suggested he wanted a return to Parkhead, although Scotland now seems to be far from his mind.

A friend already at Town seems to be doing a good job of selling the club to him: "Pablo and I know each other very well. We met through a mutual friend and he came up to Scotland to see me when I played for Livingston.

“We get on really well and it was good to see him again when I arrived in Ipswich this week. He has been looking after me!

"I will be doing my very best to persuade the manager that I am worth a contract. I am very impressed with what I have seen of Ipswich so far.

"Pablo told me all about it before I arrived, but when I saw it for myself I was thinking to myself 'This is a good club'.

"The stadium is excellent and the training ground one of the best I have seen - so many pitches and all in such good condition."

Broto was not considered fit enough for last night's game at Southend, his last action having been at the end of last season with Celtic. He says his sadness at leaving the Hoops is behind him now and that he is focused on Town: "I do not want to talk about Celtic. I am looking forward now and hopefully my career will take off again with Ipswich.

"The tour is a big thing for me. I know I must prove myself. I want to show the manager that I can be his new number one."
