No Change to Town Kit Despite Castore Acquiring Umbro Rights
Tuesday, 19th Mar 2024 13:03

Town have confirmed that the Blues’ kits won’t face any change despite Castore acquiring the rights to Umbro in the UK.

A statement from the club reads: “The club is aware of news regarding Castore’s acquisition of rights to Umbro in the UK, with supporters assured there will be no change regarding Town’s playing kits.

“Umbro have supplied Town’s kits since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, with a year remaining on the initial deal, which continues into the 2024/25 campaign.

“The club’s new Umbro playing kits for next season were signed off prior to the end of 2023, with further news regarding next season’s shirts to be revealed in due course.”

This is a bit confusing. What does the "acquired the rights to Umbro" mean?
They haven't acquired the company, presumably.
It's concerning to have any change, because Umbro have been very good and Castore have a bad reputation.

Umbro have been smashing it with our designs - Castore kits are made of paper!

They've acquired the brand/ label I suspect.
Wonder if next seasons kit will be our last with "Umbro" then?

Suspect this means the end of the deal next season then. Bit disappointed to be honest, I didnt used to be a fan but these kits last two years have been excellent

My son works for Castore so sort of knew this was coming. I agree with the fears expressed.. ok, might be able to get discount on a kit and some free tickets but I’m not a fan of their kits and loved that we were getting genuinely bespoke designs off Umbro. My son isn’t sure if Castore will keep the Umbro branding or start putting their logos on the existing kits but we are finished with the contract at the end of next season, so they are going to have to match our needs for us to stick with them. Our progress on the pitch, with shirt sales and attendances mean we hold a lot of cards.

I know Villa have dumped Castore for next season… but then it may well just be another supplier has pushed out the boat to get them? Or they have had issues with quality and service?

Many clubs have been complaining about players sweating excessively in Castore kits. Umbro have been decent but maybe a return to Adidas is a realignment with our success in the late 70’s early 80’s. Pioneer as a sponsor ?. Seriously Ed Sheeran deserves to be on our shirts. I’d love him to write a Town anthem for when the teams come out.
The future is bright regardless of shirt manufacturer

When we are in the prem the kit manufacturers will be fighting to be our shirt suppliers.

Change to Adidas or UA I assume in 12 months then.

As pointed out on here other clubs who's kits are made by them complain of excess sweating and the shirts going darker because of it

Ya, Villa players said kits were heavy with sweat after 20 minutes
Also Newcastle and Wolves replica kits had numerous quality issues, so for the sake of club/Planet Blue staff i hope we have the chance to give Castore a wide berth.

Just checked out Castore's website:

Interesting comments here:

"rom the start of the 2024/25 season we will have the exclusive right to seek to work with Umbro’s existing English Premier League team partnerships, including: AFC Bournemouth, Brentford, Luton Town and West Ham, as well as English Football League Clubs Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Forest Green Rovers."

Agree with comments above from Hatman; Umbro have come back and smashed it for us with respect to our kits. Assuming it won't be same level stuff from '25.

I'm sure I read that the Sir Alf stabd was due to have the Umbro logo incorporated into the stand from the outside?

Will this still happen?

How about we go elsewhere and try Macron? They are big Serie A suppliers and their ethics are a bit better than most others. Given the numbers of shirts sold, it would be a responsible move by the club.

Interesting. I think concerns re Castore quality may be misplaced. Under the agreement Castore will market Umbro’s product in UK and half a dozen other major W.European markets - presumably boosting Umbro market access to those markets in a more cost effective manner than Umbro could do it. The Implication is that Umbro designs and produces and Castore markets and distributes. It looks like the Umbro brand and quality product will be retained, as Castore also hails this deal as their emergence as a multi brand business.

Castore misspelled United on the Newcastle shirts. Need to sort their life out
