Head of Recruitment Linked With Former Club
Wednesday, 7th Feb 2024 09:45

Manchester United are reported to be eyeing Blues head of recruitment Sam Williams.

Williams joined Town from the Red Devils in April 2022 having been working as a first-team recruitment analyst and academy scout at Old Trafford.

According to Sun on Sunday journalist Alan Nixon, United are set to revamp their scouting team with Williams a target.

Prior to his time with United - where he was on the backroom staff alongside Town manager Kieran McKenna and his assistant Martyn Pert - Williams worked at Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday scouting for their academies.

Maybe if part of a swap deal. Sam Williams to Man U, Rashford to Ipswich. Sounds about fair!

I can see us making a few changes to our recruitment policy (and recruitment team) in the coming years, so not a real disaster in any way if they are. Just back off McKenna!

Recruitment is one of the most important parts of any ambitious football club. I hope Williams doesn't want to return to OT, but if they start waving a big cheque around, it might be hard for us to compete. I also hope that when McKenna inevitably leaves, he doesn't take a raft of Town employees with him.

Alan Nixon, chief stirrer at the paper that lies and manipulates

If Man Utd do ultimately want McKenna, then picking off his support staff in a subtle way over time is one tactic to destabilise him into following.

Not sure recruitment has been the highlight of the last couple of years. January 23 was a good window but the clear out of the small recruitment team in place pre Ashton / Mckenna was not completed much before then. This may be the only area we had better people in place already without the Bristol / Manchester backroom takeover.

From the link about Alan Nixon, it says "ReluctantNicko, CREATING football stories".

Sounds about right then rather than reporting them.

Wubble U. What are you on about? The recruitment has been way better since the new team came in. Where have you been.

WubbleU - seriously? When under Marcus Evans' leadership would we ever have been front of the queue for players we have now? Could we be wrong, but only seniors that pre-date Gamechanger, and I assume the new recruitment team, are Woolfenden, Jackson and Donacien? Surely the current crop is stronger than the years of signing the sorts of players we did. Surely you also didn't get that excited when we signed players like Nsiala, Balint Bajner (!), Paul Digby, Kevin Bru, Spence, Jon Nolan, Gwion Edwards etc. The calibre of players we wouldn't even dream of signing now goes on and on...

Not surprised. They need a major over haul and Sam is very good at his job. Hopefully he wants to see out the Gamechanger project

The Sun! Hmm.
The paper that portrayed Hillsborough victims as criminals
The paper who paid an Ipswich fan 10 days ago to complain about the club, when a fella who was pissed and threw himself the Cobbold Stand Top tier for a Tok Tok video and she'd been looked after by the club afterwards?
Well Ive no real empathy with Liverpool fans for a ton of reasons but yes, you can wipe your backside with that!

the Sun and its owners are a terrorist organization that steal lies and cheat to interfere with democracy in many countries, causing deaths and hardships for millions...the owner has previously been found unfit to hold a media license in britain but still spreads the poison to this day....

NB138 It's a miracle how McCarthy got a tune out of The Mauritian Messi and Jordan Spence for 2 seasons. 6/10 performances from 3/10 players
It haunts me how cr@p we were - Dark Dark Days.
