Bid Lodged For Al-Hamadi, New Offer For Gallagher Turned Down
Thursday, 25th Jan 2024 22:16

Town are reported to have offered AFC Wimbledon just over £1 million for striker Ali Al-Hamadi, while the Blues have had a new bid for Blackburn’s Sam Gallagher turned down.

According to the South London Press, the Blues have lodged the bid for Al-Hamadi but with the Dons believed to value the Iraq international at more than £2 million.

Al-Hamadi, who is currently at the AFC Asian Cup with his national side, signed a two-and-a-half year deal when he joined the Dons in January last year.

The 21-year-old’s former club Wycombe Wanderers are understood to be due a significant sell-on from a move, while Leeds United, Stoke City and Hull City are said to have been keeping tabs on the Liverpool-raised frontman this season.

Elsewhere, TWTD can confirm reports that Town have had a new bid rejected for Blackburn striker Sam Gallagher.

The Blues made a number of offers, understood to be just above the £1 million mark, for the 28-year-old last week with Rovers initially appearing receptive to a deal before a change of heart, perhaps due to concerns regarding finding a replacement. Gallagher himself is keen on making the move.

The striker is out of contract in the summer but with Rovers having an option for a further season, however, with Gallagher believed to be their highest-paid player, they're understood to be less than keen to take up the additional year.

Town are looking to sign two strikers during this window with George Hirst sidelined for most of the rest of the season having undergone hamstring surgery and loanee Dane Scarlett having returned to parent club Tottenham.

Aspiring to the Premier Division I would have thought requires a bit more than another one to two million pound striker. OK you can always pick up a bargain or a younger "project". If ITFC clearly want Al-Hamadi you probably will not get him for less than 2 million given sell on clauses. Bid high straight away to stop others like Leeds as another striker is hardly a luxury at present. Under McKenna ITFC have been brilliant but could he remain in the Premier with just this squad - maybe for a season but longer term?

Surely at this moment we have to be looking at players who are good enough for the Championship and could hold their own in the Prem. I would have said, although my opinion is worth nothing on here if it contradicts the management, that very few, if any, of the current team are good enough to play in the Prem, so why are we scratching around with elderly strikers and League 2 players? I appreciate FFP has an impact but it doesn't mean every team that goes up automatically comes down (apart from Naaaarich of course).

I think it's a question of 'getting over the line'. It won't be a popular thing to say, but in my opinion, Walton, Hladky, Davies, Morsy (for a season our two?), Chaplin may start in a future prem first eleven, but the millions we will come into will replace the others

Won't be easy though KMcBlue, look at the trouble Forest have had.
