Maresca: A Big Shame
Monday, 22nd Jan 2024 23:38

Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca felt it was “a big shame” that his side dropped two points against the Blues, Jeremy Sarmiento’s 89th-minute goal claiming a point for Town as the teams drew 1-1 at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes had gone ahead in the first half via Leif Davis’s own goal - his second of the season - but the Blues improved after the break and deserved their equaliser when it came.

“A big shame,” Maresca, who watched the game from the stand due to a one-match touchline ban, said. “It’s a shame because the effort from the players has been huge, has been unbelievable.

“It’s always a shame when you drop points at the end, as already happened there [at Ipswich] and happened tonight, but it’s football.

“Until the end, even if you go 2-0 up, there is always a danger or chance for the other team to recover the game.

“But it’s a shame for the result because the chances that we created, but overall the way we performed, I’m very happy.”

Does he feel a draw isn’t a bad result with his side still seven points clear of Town and eight in front of Southampton in third? “We always go game by game and tonight the focus was just about tonight, about winning tonight.

“We were 10 points from Ipswich and Southampton [if they had won tonight]. Losing or drawing, it’s still very long. We always repeat the same, not because I want to [just] repeat the same but because it’s true.

“The Championship is very long. Now we are in the right direction because of the performance but there are still many games.”

Not sure what this guys on about to be honest if we had made some better decisions a couple of times when attacking twice with burns free on the right we could’ve snuck a win. I do think a draw was fair they had the better first half we had the better second.

Just think of it as a point gained rather than two dropped! We did score both goals after all :)

Our never say die attitude is always likely to produce a goal in the last 10-15 minutes. That and Keiran's astute use of substitutes means that we can often finish over the top of other teams as they tire.
Apart from the home games against Southampton and West Brom we look to have a good draw through to season's end although we are a good chance, at full strength, to win both of those. I also think that with the state of pitches improving through spring and early summer our quality will be more in evidence. In short we can hold second place and if Leicester falter we may be able to overtake them. It is all to play for....coyb

First half to Leicester , Second half to us . Best 2 teams in the championship shared the points - fair result

Well that’s the big guns out if the way now. But take a look at Saints fixtures in March and early April….. if they win those back to back games against top 6 teams then you’d have to say they deserve a top two place. It’s who copes best with thst top mini league that will go up…… and I wouldn’t bet against Town .

To be fair I thought Leicester was excellent especially first half. Without some big saves from Hladky we would probably have lost that game. However, we improved second half and the fighting spirit alone merited a point. Also results have gone against us a few times this season when we deserved more, so it all balances out in the end. So proud of the boys!

Considering their squad is "valued" at 10x more than ours, they should feel shame.

Our April fixtures look tough but so did last year’s when we had four away games against teams in the top six.

If the highlights were anything to go by then yes Leicester should have won. But cast your minds back to us against the Budgies, we absolutely annihilated them but they came away with a draw. If you don't take your chances there's always I am afraid the chance of the opposition getting something out of the game. We are still short of a striker and have done very well the last couple of games without one. Hopefully that will be addressed, but then I don't want some makeshift guy in. I'd rather we wait for some real class.
