Cardiff Eyeing Tuanzebe
Wednesday, 17th Jan 2024 15:27

Cardiff City are reportedly eyeing a move for Blues centre-half Axel Tuanzebe.

The 26-year-old joined Town in September following the closure of the summer transfer window having been a free agent after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season.

The former England U19, U20 and U21 international spent time getting to full fitness having joined the club still feeling the effects of a back injury and has now made seven starts and two sub appearances.

He scored his first senior goal in the FA Cup win at AFC Wimbledon, which was also the first time he had made successive starts for the Blues.

But, according to Sky Sports, the central defender wants to play more regularly with Cardiff City interested in signing him during this window, while Championship clubs are also said to be keen.

Tuanzebe is contracted to Town until the end of the season with the Blues having an option for a further year.

Town would be less than keen to allow one of their centre-halves to move on during January without replacing them with Cameron Burgess and Elkan Baggott both away at the AFC Asian Cup.

Elsewhere, former Town defender Richard Keogh has left League One Wycombe Wanderers having joined the Chairboys following his Blues departure in the summer.

The 37-year-old is looking to play more regularly having made 16 starts and nine sub appearances while at Adams Park.

know it hasn’t happened yet. Any player will go with a hint of sadness after what has happened recently

I honestly feel that there is no truth in this at all! Maybe Cardiff would like him, yeah, but no way this is going to happen, no way that Axel is moaning about playing time when he is in full knowledge of the fitness plan designed for him, wtf do they get their stories from?!?

Fingers crossed this is paper talk. Feels like we are just beginning to see the best of him and with Williams out of the picture and his impressive recent stints at right back means I'd expect him to break into the team more regularly this spring anyway.

Let him go, we've done enough for him, got him fit, etc, he's coming into a back four that's outperforming where we should be week in, week out, he knew what he was getting himself into,

Good player, arrogant character

Need to keep him here. Who knows what injuries or suspensions are coming our way.

I'm not reading much into this. Sky Sports are probably just trying to unsettle us so it gives their darling Leeds a better chance of going up.

Probably his agent stirring things up !

This is all total rubbish Kieran McKenna has been gently playing Axcel until he's 100% ready for the full 90 minutes, I would take this rumour with a pinch of salt as Axell is lined up to be a permanent fixture alongside Burgess, we might let Wolfi go for £20 million

Well I hope we don’t sell him coz he’s one of best CB’s at the club he just needs games to get up to speed.

Mediocre_Quick What has he done wrong? Newspapers have to speculate to sell copies. I very much doubt that Tuanzabe does not back himself to get into the first team and stay there. Leaving to play for Cardiff, he'd effectively just be saying that he's not good enough.

Disturbing ‘rubbish’ which might well be simply to make mischief ; let’s hope KM ,as in every other circumstance, has things very much under control !
With BW probably out of the picture for quite a while, JD still on a recovery program and both LD and HC a little less than 100 % without physical problems , why on earth would ITFC wish to lessen the well balanced back up situation ? That is unless we actually want to raise money to stay within the FFP rules and spend on additions ?
Hope we do not sell on ,AND this rumour turns out to be just that !

Tuanzebe should be looking at Premier League if he has any ambition. He won’t get that with Cardiff.

Not really sure on the state of his fitness or if he will ever be one hundred percent fit. At the end of the season we will know one way or the other if he's offered a contract. My only concern is if he does get fully fit other clubs in the championship will be able to offer him better terms than what we can offer. The form of Edmundson has been a massive boost and the defence has probably been the tightest it's been all season. In my opinion he's the best all round defender at the club if he can stay fit.

Paper talk? People still talk about newspapers needing to sell copies... what year is this,? Does anyone buy papers anymore under the age of 40? The world has moved on.

I suspect Cardiff have shown interest, its the transfer window, that's what happens during the transfer window, the "newspapers" don't have to invent that for it to be a thing. Whether or not we sell/loan is another thing altogether, but you'd expect an ex-Premiership player who's not regularly started for his club would be of interest (and worth a punt) to league rivals, and thus this shouldn't be a surprise. Guess what, clubs are eyeing up our manager and other players too, it doesn't mean they will leave.

@ChampionsofInnsbruck - clearly it's a turn of phrase. Newspapers still want you to engage with their content on other platforms, transfer 'rumours' still achieves this.

Woolfy and Edmundson are first choice for me at the moment, really pleased to see Edmundson back in the team. Woolfy has found some extra gears, probably due to Tuanzebe.

Like many others, I don't think there's much in this. And if there is, I'll have a lower opinion of Tuanzebe's attitude to being in a squad with competition for places. Edmundson shows everyone how it's done!

Utter garbage. One of McKennas long term plans

Well let's face it, KM will only let him go in the following circumstances:

A) A fee commensurate with his value given we have an option on him for another season after this, and

B) The availability of a replacement at at least Axel's ability level is available to replace him.

If both of those are in place and all parties are happy then it might make sense, wake me when his replacement is signed and he signs for Cardiff, until then i'll wait for something more than speculation :)

Also reckon this is way off the mark - KcKenna has nurtured him through his injury and back into 1st team football…, plus he gives us cover at right back as well as CB, and with Harry Clarkes’ ongoing achilles issue and Brandon Williams back at Man U injured, we need him. End of….!!

Keogh to Cardiff. Simple. Two birds, one stone.

Tuanzebe is a little bit like a neglected Rolls Royce that has been neglected and left in a yard somewhere, Arthur Daley McKenna spotted him, gave him some love and attention, a bit of polish, greased the axle and now the car is gliding along like a good 'un.
McKenna knows the quality he has in Tuanzebe and currently hopes he will keep running well. Axel is the best defensive player we have at the club who can play anywhere across the back, he exudes quality, if we can keep him fit I would suggest you won't see him on the forecourt any time soon!

He’s under contract….so unlesss anyone is prepared to pay what Ashton deems fair. It ain’t going anywhere. Plus Cardiff couldn’t afford the £7m starting bid……
