Agent: Hladky Priorities Agreeing Town Contract Extension and Promotion
Wednesday, 27th Dec 2023 11:08

Blues keeper Vaclav Hladky’s agent has responded to claims of Celtic interest in the Czech, who has established himself as Town’s number one this season.

Reports that the Glasgow giants were keen on Hladky, 33, have been circulating over the last week or so, although none from particularly reliable sources.

Hladky, who previously played in Scotland with St Mirren prior to his spell with Salford City and also interested Aberdeen in January this year, is out of contract in the summer with clubs able to begin discussions regarding terms from the turn of the year.

But Hladky’s agent Martin Stepanovsky says negotiating a new deal with Town and winning promotion to the Premier League is the main focus.

“We have some teams registering inquiries, which is understandable given Vaclav's performances, the position of Ipswich and the expiring contract,” the Daily Record reports.

“However, the priority is to agree on an extension and advance to the Premier League.”

Hladky has been one of the stars of Town’s season, having come into the side after Christian Walton suffered a plantar fascia injury in pre-season.

He’s not going to be playing for that pub team.

Must be a nice boost to Hladky to think he's wanted at Celtic to (presumably) replace an ex-England in Hart, but great he seems to want to stay.

Fully deserves a new contact, has been outstanding all season.Whether Walton will want to stay here as his number 2,is another matter.

I'm sure his agent will do his best in order to maximise his fee!

I remain convinced we play better from the back with Vas in goal, and that the long term solution is Slicker, so it will be interesting to see if we still have Walton here at the end of the window...

Hdlaky has been a revelation since he came in. Really deserves to stay and great that he seems to want to.

Didn’t realise he was 33, thought he was younger, but pretty good age for a keeper. Got a good 3 or 4 seasons left in him yet, maybe more. Get him signed.

Pure agent talk. He's playing his best football at his absolute ceiling as a keeper. He's a prem keeper with his ball at his feet but he's at best lower champ/L1 shot stopper. A good champ keeper. Really like him and his style fits over and bove anything else. Hope we keep him but the minute the agent plays games or they ask too much for 33 year old then we walk away. It's win win for him to stay.

Strange that both our ‘keepers are out of contract in the summer. I would have expected at least one to be signed on a long term deal by now.

Hladky is a great example of someone getting his chance due to the bad luck of someone else and being good enough to take maximum advantage.
I am not sure that he is the best of the 3 keepers in terms of all-round ability and competence but he is certainly making the most of what he has. A nice problem for McKenna to have in terms of the goalkeeping department........

@Nutkins_Return said it best - great with ball at his feet but below average Championship keeper as a shot stopper and on crosses. I'm sorry to say that if we get to the Premier League he will be massively exposed.

I wouldn't be held ransom, there's better keepers who are also good with their feet. If we're heading to the Premier League we should be able to afford a £6m fee like Leicester paid for 23 year old international Mads Hermansen.
