Tottenham Recall Scarlett
Wednesday, 27th Dec 2023 09:46

Town have confirmed that striker Dane Scarlett has been recalled by his parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

Manager Kieran McKenna revealed on Saturday that he anticipated the 19-year-old, who made only 12 sub appearances during his time at Portman Road, was set to return to the Premier League side.

“There’s conversations with Tottenham at the moment,” McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk. “I think it looks very likely that he’ll be recalled. Tottenham have injury issues at the moment and they have their main forward [Son Heung-min] going to the Asian Cup at the start of January as well.”

“Good to get Dane back and obviously the loan didn’t work out for him at Ipswich, which is disappointing for him and disappointing for us because the reason we sent him out on loan was to get some game-time, rhythm and develop.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou admitted that the loan hadn’t progressed as his club wanted.

“It hasn’t worked out that way so made sense to bring him back,” he said.

“He is back training with us and becomes available from January 1st again. Then it is up to him.

“He will stay with us until the rest of the season and we’ll see how he trains and what opportunities may or may not come along, so we’ll address those situations then.”

Scarlett's exit frees up a space in the 25-man EFL squad with on-loan Premier League players counting towards that number.

Expected. Didnt quite make an impact here unfortunately, but not everything works out. Hopefully we can make a few impact signings like last year to push us on in the right way!

This lad can't catch a break. Couldn't play in the cup which would have helped him and now just when an opening appears and he'd be starting he's recalled to sit on the bench at Spurs.

Short sighted by Spurs. He would actually get a run of games now with Hirst injured, now he will warm the bench at Tottenham.

Still wouldn't start with Hirst injured Ladapo or Jackson would be ahead of him although both struggle at championship level. Scarlet looked off the pace and probably needs to drop down to league one. My cousin who is a Pompey fan said that he did ok at Pompey but wasn't a stand out player and was very surprised that we signed him. I think when you watch a player you can work out what his strengths are but im not sure what his are but he's got time on his side.

No great lose really. We wouldn't be signing unless we make the Prem and even then I doubt Spurs would have sold him cheaply. We need to sign a ready to replacement for Hirst early window.
