McKenna: Burns Set For Return
Friday, 10th Nov 2023 14:41

Town boss Kieran McKenna says that as it stands winger Wes Burns is available for some minutes during Saturday’s home game against Swansea City at Portman Road, while fellow Welshman Nathan Broadhead has trained having been ill in midweek.

Brandon Williams missed last week’s game at Birmingham having been unwell before returning to the bench at Rotherham on Tuesday and McKenna says there is still some illness among the squad but with Broadhead back on the grass having been absent against the Millers.

“We still have a little bit of sickness knocking about in the camp, but Nathan Broadhead trained today, so that was positive,” the Blues boss said.

“Axel [Tuanzebe] came through the game [at Rotherham] fine. Wes is now training with the group, so that’s a positive and we’re going into the weekend in a pretty good place.”

Quizzed on whether Cardiff fan Burns, who suffered a shoulder injury while away with Wales last month, might be fit enough to return against the Swans, McKenna said: “It’s not impossible. He’s come through all fine, has recovered well and he’s available for some minutes tomorrow, as it stands.”

He’ll be super pleased to be back physically training ,exercising hard with the squad , and everyone at ITFC ,supporters included, will be delighted to see him available for some minutes ,if only from the bench .
WB has improved notably this season and his all round contribution now makes a significant difference on the field !
Excellent news ; best of good fortune !

Missed him, Williams + Burns is a few notches of improvement over Clarke and Jackson

Hopefully the overly loud, bordering on annoying Tannoy won't blare out the ''Burns will tear you apart'' pre match ritual.

Well KM is very good at giving nothing away. With a two week gap now I'd personally be quite surprised (although pleased) to see Wes in the squad tomorrow, we aren't a Football Club that rushes people back too quickly

Reading between the lines there is no need to rush Wes into a starting XI. Hutchinson and Jackson have done well but Burns is the real deal. 20 minutes before the international break would be my bet. McKenna knows how to look after his players. In previous years our lack of squad depth meant that we had to drag the walking wounded onto the field. One example of putting football before people was Jon Walters playing with an injury that ended his career.

Gosblue, I think the difference is the end product. Burns and Hutchinson have it, Jackson unfortunately doesn't.
