Town Ball Three in Fourth Round Draw
Wednesday, 27th Sep 2023 12:10

Town will be ball number three in this evening’s draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues are in the hat at the last 16 stage for the first time since 2010/11 having come from 2-0 down to beat Premier League Wolves 3-2 at Portman Road last night.

The draw takes place following the live-on-Sky Newcastle United-Manchester City tie at around 10.20pm unless that game goes to penalties.

The balls will be drawn by former Republic of Ireland international keeper Shay Given and ex-England international midfielder Izzy Christiansen.

Round four ties will be played in the week commencing October 30th.

Written in the stars for us to play and beat Man Utd.
Or Norwich.
Or both.

3. Ipswich Town
4. Manchester United
Isn't it nice to see that we are in the same draw as the big boys?

Personally I would like Mansfield away (new ground) or anyone at home

Is anyone secretly hoping that Norwich win tonight? It's a 1 in 15 chance.......

Home to Mansfield. Would give us a very, very good chance of being in the last 8

I think in an ideal world, a team that's around about our ability would be good (home or away) and then achieving that, a good prem club (I'm sure that's two legs) so we could get two games out of it.

Mansfield away would be a good trip to the oldest ground in football, given I see the last time we played there was 1963 so presume very few if any of us have been there...

There's some good options in there. Ideally we're at home to one of the 'lesser' teams like Mansfield, Exeter or Port Vale to give us a good chance of getting through to the 1/4 final. Wouldn't be a given of course but you would back us, especially in this form.

Failing that, any of the big clubs would make for an interesting tie. Man City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal. Assuming they go through. Might well be televised too depending on the rest of the draw.

The most underwhelming would be Middlesbrough, Burnley, Blackburn / Cardiff etc. The sort of tie that's both tough on paper and not very glamorous.

Definitely not Fulham … they beat us 10-1 on Boxing Day 1963.

After yesterday’s performance, those XI should have their own ball at #17.
