Blackpool Among Clubs to Make Baggott Enquiry
Friday, 1st Sep 2023 12:18

Blackpool are one of a number of clubs keen to sign Blues central defender Elkan Baggott on loan before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

Boss Kieran McKenna has been considering whether to send the Indonesia international out on loan or keep him in his squad for the season ahead.

It appears the Blues would now be willing to allow the 20-year-old to move out and we understand several clubs at League One level, including the Tangerines, have made enquiries.

However, any deal is certain to be dependent on Town adding a more senior centre-half before the window closes at 11pm this evening.

Earlier in the window, TWTD reported that Stevenage had shown interest in the centre-half, who impressed in pre-season and in the two Carabao Cup ties.

Must mean

The Blues have someone lined up and incoming Phil?

Or am I reading between the lines wrong?

I would personally like to see him involved in the starting XI, can't hurt to see how he would play in this system. McKenna clearly sees something in him, and with youth players starting to get involved with the squad with Scarlett, Hutchinson and Williams. Would love to see him play against either Cardiff or Wednesday.

Wouldn’t send him out on loan, personally I’d be playing him, every time he gets a chance people seem to rave about him - give him a go I say.

Understand regular experience is important but feel he deserves to stay and be part of the club. He is better than a mistake prone senior CB already and that gap will only continue to widen over time. If we let him go out and replace him with a temporary Keogh/Cathcart type it would be disappointing. Anyway, I trust KMc to do the right thing by the lad. I think he's a gem and would worry that constantly sending him out might result in us losing favour with him.

I can see the numpties on here are starting to turn against McKenna. If Baggott was good enough McKenna would give him a go as they say on here. I trust in McKenna and his coaching staff one hundred percent who work with the players day in day out. Baggott hasn't proved himself against any one that's half decent and McKenna isn't going to give any one a run of games at the detriment of the team. He needs to go out on loan and earn the right to a place in the squad like any one else.

Baggott is shaping up to be a good player, hence the interest in him. But he would benefit from a full season of the rough and tumble in L1 and come back to us a better player. I think it is exactly as Phil says, "However, any deal is certain to be dependent on Town adding a more senior centre-half before the window closes at 11pm this evening." Let's wait and see what happens.
