Town Draw Reading Away
Wednesday, 9th Aug 2023 22:33

Town have drawn League One Reading away in round two of the Carabao Cup.

The Royals, relegated from the Championship last season, beat Millwall 4-0 at the Den in their round one tie yesterday.

Round two ties will take place on Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st August.

The teams have never previously met in the League Cup and last faced one another in league action in the Blues' 2018/19 Championship relegation campaign when the teams drew 2-2 in Berkshire and the Royals won 2-1 in Suffolk.

Blues forward Sone Aluko was with Reading prior to joining Town in the summer of 2021.

We should take a few - some time since we went to Reading and the game is still in the school holidays.
NO Pizza Cup this year so lets hope to progress and get more of a look at Baggott, Humphries etc

Great, short trip from Walton on Thames and I should get a ticket ok! No repeat of that miserable 0-4 Championship defeat late in 2018 surely this time.

Complete agree BlueinBerks! Fellow Reading resident here - see you there. Hope we take a decent number despite us likely fielding a (still strong) second string team. Sandwiched between Leeds and Cardiff home league fixtures, can't imagine we're putting a full strength 11 out. At least it's not Plymouth/Exeter/really far away for them to travel to midweek.

I suspect this cup run will continue to be mostly to give fringe players, potential for sale/ loanees as a showcase, and injury returnees a chance to get match fit and show what they can do to earn a place in league matches.
I don't expect the team to change much by KM/ Pert if/ as we progress, even if we got into the final, with league squad being the priority.
These cups don't seem to have the same respect they once used to but still useful and does have its benefits.
Good luck to them all at Reading.

Good draw if it means we’ve a good chance to progress and gives the fringe players more time to shine.
Sone to score against his former club

Lackluster draw it has to be said but Reading wont be fielding a strong side either I dont suspect so Town could well progress.

@rfretwell - I think you've got your wires crossed. We WON 4-0 in 2018. I was there - it was awesome!
