Town Apply For Planning Permission For Sir Alf Stand Signage
Tuesday, 1st Aug 2023 09:25

Town have applied for planning permission to install new signage on the back of the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand.

The view of the back of the stand has been opened up with the demolition of the old Office Outlet (previously Staples) and Better Gym building over the summer.

The new application includes internally illuminated as well as non-illuminated signs bearing the name of the club as well as the logo of kit manufacturer Umbro.

I think it looks great. It'll look superb walking down from the train station on a Tuesday night with all those lights. If Portman Rd becomes the Umbro Arena with a mega bucks sponsorship deal I'm all for it.

When we eventually knock down and rebuild the Cobbold stand there might not be much of Portman Road left! lol, may well become the Umbro arena!

While we're at it, the 'Welcome to Portman Road' signage over the players tunnel looks cheap and nasty as well

People will moan about the slightest thing, if you don't like it, don't look at it it's simple enough.
The revenue stream that comes with this will be significant, it's the modern world. And yes down the line we might well have a Umbro Portman Road Stadium or another image rights deal. The cost of upgrading the Cobbold stand will be tens of Millions and if a stadium rights deal pays for it, thats 100% better than debt and going back to the dark days of administration etc etc

Amazing how quiet some of these moaners were during the dark years of Evans ownership!

What's all this 'moaning' at moaners. Just having an opinion on stuff on a forum is what a forum is for, not everyone agreeing with you.

Obviously the club have been looking at comments on here. Statement to EADT saying the umbro logos are for example only no decision on what the logos will be .

I like it.
It could be awful; it could be called The Marcus Evans Stand, be painted green and yellow and have Magical Vegas lit up in throbbing neon.

Regency, it was “his club he could do what he wanted!” Probably the most tragic thing I’ve ever read from a football fan, and a town one at that!

It would never happen back in the time of the cob bolds and Robson.
